One of the films that had a few mentions but just missed the top 20 that I'd have as either 2 or 3 on my personal list would be Amores Perros.

edit: City Of God is definitely worthy of the top 20 here.

I agree and would also personally add The Lives of Others

You know at the time. I had only seen Pan's Labyrinth, because Lives Of Others hadn't hit bluray yet. And when it beat Pan's for the Oscar I thought there was no way it was better. Then it came out finally the next week and after watching it I agreed. Years later, I still think I could go either way, but both definitely deserve it.

On this list critics were asked to rank the top 10 films of the decade. The list took the films with the most top 10 mentions, added them up to get the following.

2. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
3. There Will Be Blood
4. The Departed
5. Wall-E
6. Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King
7. Brokeback Mountain
8. Almost Famous
9. Pan's Labyrinth
9. Sideways
11. YiYi
12. Kill Bill 1/2
13. 25th Hour
13. United 93
15. Lord Of The Rings Trilogy
15. Mulholland Drive
17. The Dark Knight
18. A.I.: Artificial Intelligence
19. City OF God
20. 4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days

Gangs of New York was much better than There Will Be Blood or the Departed. Two reasons why I picked those two as an example towards Gangs. The actor and director connections.

I also think the Fastest Indian and City of God should be in that list. I also love Gran Turino. :)

It's on there.

I personally wouldn't have The Departed in my top 20. The original is vastly superior.

I'd have The Departed in my top 20 all time (after the "decade" SNAFU from before, I've decided to jettison the timeframes altogether).

Some really strange ones in there. I'll have to look up YiYi.

The only ones I don't know of are YiYi and 4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days. I don't see anything on that list as too out there. I may not agree with all the choices, but I don't think there is anything wrong with any of them.

I will check out City of God,i have never seen it.Never seen Memento either, and ive heard nothing but good about it.

4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days is available for instant viewing on Netflix if you have it. It's good.

the story is told backwards in memento, pretty cool trick

Yea it's a cool trick but when the story is forwards, it's a really simple murder story. The backwards thing gives it another level of depth, but overall I still think Memento is far from Nolan's best film.

I do like how the black and white section is told forwards, so the two converge at the end.

Mmhmm. Insomia was great too. I watched it after pulling an all nighter....now that ____ is crazy! At the end when he finally gets to 'sleep'...you sleep too...its crazy.

I still need to see the original version. Nolan's remake was good.

I certainly think Memento is a great film, and the way Nolan edits the story together is bloody brilliant. It is still one of my favorite films, but I am more a fan of Nolan's "Following."

This is also one of my favorite Nolan films.
