nice ride BM!!! i definitely like these better than the hatchback that they had before. i'm thinking about getting a TDI jetta in a couple months so i can use that 40+ mpg. however, i still love my gas guzzler and will probably just hold onto it for weekend cruising.

Thanks man! I like it better too! They have about 40 more horses. :lol And still get great mileage if you don't drive like a ***** and keep the revs high.

Well since this has a cash for clunkers bend now. my GF just took advantage of this and we're glad. she had a 98 Jimmy with 168,000 miles and was within two months of having to dump at least $2000 into it in the way of new tires, brakes and a door that was starting to fall off.etc..etc...etc...etc...etc. she was in the market for a new auto before this promotion came up, but with her trade-in value being only $1500 if she was lucky she got $4,500!!! I'm sure she would have sold it to a poor family if they would have paid the $4,500..:lol
also they don't trash the entire auto. just the power train.
there comes a point when you look at how much you're putting into a used car to keep it going and realize it's cheaper to just buy a new one. :D

oh, thanks Mesa for helping out with the down payment...:wave

Anytime man. :lol

If I could have taken advantage of this, I probably would have too. Just don't like it being marketed as a "green" program, which it isn't. If a requirement was that you must get a Prius or some other hybrid, then at least they could be honest about it being green. I'm all for affordable alternative fuel vehicles. When they get cheap and reliable enough, I'll get one as a second vehicle just to save on gas.

Interesting I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing! :duff

Mesa is a kind and generous person. With a little luck I will get him to spot me $8,000 towards the down payment of my new house. :rotfl

Mesa I don't think "bankrupt" is the term for the cash for clunkers program as their purpose was to spend the money to begin with. A grant program not willing to spend money just wastes everyone's money.

The fact the money disappeared fast means the program was a success. Now of course there is a fiasco behind the actual processing of the credits. But thats the government for you. ANY GOVERNMENT. Doesnt mean it was a bad program. Tax rebate programs go through just as much BS with the paper work too. Anyway, personally I think it was the best $1b spent during this recovery. IF (and thats a BIG IF) we had to spend money at least people are A)spening cash themselves B) its producing actual work and C) there will be tax and fee revenues associated which minimizes the $4500 the gov spent.

If government programs are a fact of life, its good to see one that actually works.

I would never be able to take advantage of this program as it has always been my rule, when I buy a new car (which is about every 5-7 years), I always go for the economy cars. Right now it is a Ford Focus.

What I might do is check to see if the new Focuses are rated at better mileage than my '05. If so (and I HIGHLY doubt it) I might just go for the early trade-in.

I'd still get more than $4500 with my trade in, so I'm just going to hang onto the car I've got until I pay it off. If my car holds up, it will be nice to live life with only one car payment. :wacky

My dad took advantage of this on saturday which I'm guessing was the last day. He had a pick-up that the frame was rusting out on. Between the cash for clunkers, rebates and other BS he got 10k off a new Chevy Silverado ext cab. He's 64yrs old and this will be his first "new" vehicle.

that is awesome.

I looked up my wife's 1995 Mitsubishi Mirage and despite being a cheap vehicle the thing gets way more than 18 mpg so it doesn't qualify.

Dude, CONGRATS!!!!!

Let me say, I had a new 2008 Civic Si and it was BY FAR the best car I had (comfort, reliability, gas) The biggest mistake I made was trading it in after a few months of owning it :( I'm a bit of a gear head and I wanted something with some SERIOUS power. The civic is SOOOOOO comfortable, but stupid me just wanted that power  I ended up getting a 2005 Nissan 350Z and dropped a single turbo kit in it  Boy that was fun, but the Civic was so much better in a lot of ways.....

Congrats again man! Enjoy that thing!!! :rock

Thanks man! I am hanging onto this one for a while. I love it! Great gas mileage, has a little pep, and handles well. Coudn't ask for a better car. The only downer is the young punks on the street that think because you are driving a civic that you automatically want to play daytona. I just ignore them. :lol Damn ricers. :rotfl

I think I'm getting old. :horror:rotfl:horror

Well due to gas prices and the fact that I had a Ford Explorer I had to do something. So I traded that ^^^^^ in and bought a new car. I bought a 2009 Honda Civic SI.

Now before the gear heads come in hear and say stupid ^^^^ let me make one thing clear. This car is not a damn race car and I didn't want one. If I wanted one I would have bought one.

So now that, that is out of the way. I will say I love it! It is pretty quick, I like the style, and gas is way cheaper! It was brand new! I never had a new car before so I love it! My favorite car ever was a 93 Honda Civic EX coupe that I bought when I was 18. I should have never went back to American. I love Hondas! They run forever! Since I bought my 2004 explorer it had already broken down on me twice. Anyways thought I would finally share. Im bored and have nothing better to do anyways. LOL!
