This summer has been quite a dog for me. The only movies I enjoyed enough to rave about were Star Trek and The Hangover....if the next Harry Potter isn't good it'll be a serious disappointment overall for the summer.

This summer started off crappy with Wolverine. But then once Drag Me to Hell came out, things got better....then TS...meh...then The Hangover which rocked, and finally ROTF which I loved.

So I dunno....

Oh man, #5 for Pelham? I thought for sure most people here would have found that movie to be horrible. I laughed out of pity for that movie...it was so bad to me. It may even be worse to me than Knowing or The day the earth stood still....ugh...

Number five only because Terminator's #6 and then Wolverine's at #7. So it's more a #5 by default. :lol

There's a huge drop-off (IMO) from Up to Pelham.

1. UP!
2. Drag Me To Hell
3. The Hangover
4. Star Trek
5. Terminator Salvation

I can't even rate some of the other stuff. :monkey4

Damn I have to go see Drag me to hell.... And you guys should go see Hangover!

I think some movies, box office numbers do speak to the quality, and some don't.

I think The Dark Knight's Box Office take reflects the reception of the film very well, it wouldn't have gotten that high if that many people didn't like it, and it was a dark tone film so it's not like a Transformers full of light hearted fun.

Transformers on the other hand, is not a movie you can guage quality by Box Office numbers in my mind, and for one reason, kids. How many of the ticket sales are made up of 4-5 people being mom, dad and a couple kids. Families will be going to the movie because of a lack of young adult movies and screaming children to shut up.

Now, this isn't commentary on whether or not ROTF was good, just my take on the use of Box Office numbers. Ther'es Box Office success and there's good films, the 2 aren't always in sync.

TF could've made 18 bucks...from me, and I still would've loved the hell outta it.

But still....Drag Me To Hell is still awesome sauce. I might watch it today.

Let's avoid any name calling please.

This summer is no worse or better than any summer before it. Last summer had a couple of great films and so has this summer and it's not over yet.

The only films that I was looking forward to this summer were Star Trek and Harry Potter - and at least one has been worth it.

It's been said that the general movie-going audience doesn't give a ^^^^^ about critical reviews and ROTF just seems to cement that dictum judging by the $$$$ it raked in last weekend.

Box office numbers have never been a barometer for quality and it'll never be unless the general audience starts to observe reviews that aren't solely sell-quotes on movie posters. On a related note, The Dark Knight would have been a big hit even if it were mediocre.

I think its funny people are still comparing it to TDK. The ONLY reason why TDK did good was cause Ledger died, not because he was in the movie, or there are really that many batman fans in the world, and not because its really that good of a film, which it is. It was because he died. Just look at the numbers Begins did. Half the people who saw it only saw it to see ledger in his last full role. Thats its. That is my opinion on why TDK did so good.

so to compare any movie with the TDK on box office is ridiculous....because his death drew numbers that if he had not died would not of happened.

Thats a good point, TDK because of Heath and Transformers movies appeals heavily to common people...the types of crap humor in TF and Megan Fox is what drives all the jocks to see it and women who are so tied to Celebrity BS gossip...well, i think its something to do with that.

I just got back home from seeing transformers and I was AWESOME!! It was really entertaining, but what the hell was with the chick that was a robot with that hella long toungue? And Optimus combining with jetfire mad me cry alittle. And the twins were unnecessary, but they were great comic relief. But i did like the movie.
