Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I am down for a replacement gun. I WISH I could spend that kind of dough on the duster, but that's just not possible.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

As for replacement gun, my advice is to not bother learning how to model. What you are proposing is on par with learning how to paint so you could reproduce the Mona Lisa. What would be the easiest and would produce the best results is to go to sites like Polycount or Deviantart to find a 3D artist willing to make it for you. They have been doing it longer, are good at their craft and if you find some fellow Browncoats, willing to work cheap. Hell if it’s a great looking model I’d help you pay for it if only so I could have a copy for my DAZ work.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Hey guys,

Kato has been approached about doing essentially the PERFECT browncoat for Mal. He needs 20 people interested for him to get started on the coat. Let's make this happen!!

Here is the link to the browncoat thread: https://sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91325

If you are not aware of Kato's work, check out some of his work below:

I'm quite an experienced modeler, check my sig

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

See there, that is a horse of a different color ;). Another route would be to simply get the Tonner pistol and have a quality mold maker shrink it and cast up copies.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Viper, if you can get the pistol made and would ever want to start selling them count me in for one. Mal just doesn't look right without his sidearm.:)

On another note, its been a little over 12 hours and we are halfway to the 20 we need for the duster. Thets keep it going people!

If we can keep going at this rate we could have the full list by tommorow. Its going to take all of us to make this a reality, so if you know any others who might be interested be sure to let them know!

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I have the model gun I made but my casting is sucking. I think I need someone with a pressure casting method.

If I can get my 3D software working again, I'll do a model and see how much it would cost to make--a 3D print of something that small even at high quality probably wouldn't be too expensive, and it's probably easy to cast. Some of the places that do 3D prints also do casting, so I'll look into it.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

As much as I like Kato's work, I more than happy with my duster from Chad.

I love my Duster that Anzik did for me. He'll be putting the final touches on it and it cost me oh well...pretty much nothing compared to the other costs people are paying. I can't fathom spending as much as some of you are. But, we all have to be happy with what we have. I am happy with mine.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Its a shame, you are gonna miss out on something really phenominal.

Up until a couple days ago, I couldn't fathom spending that much for any 1/6 piece of clothing either. But you really do get what you pay for, and if you want to have the ultimate Mal and a truely unique work of art, this really is the best way to go.

I know I wont be able to change your mind, but I would adivse you to atleast consider it; if only briefly.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Viper, I will send you a PM with the link.

I wonder what Kato will use for the clasps? I am working on some for the duster for capn out of styrene.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Considering Kato's passion for accuracy, I wouldn't be surprised if he had his friend Sean Ho sculpt them from scratch. Kato will not produce an item unless he's sure he can make it 99% accurate, no compromises. :exactly:

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I would love one but I just can't justify the cost.

I hear you Anzik, when he came onto the scene with his Indy jackets at $175 a pop I thought it was a joke. Having said that, I now own his Dexter Morgan set, his Indy shirt, his Morpheus set, and soon, his Tyler Durden T-Shirt. I would never shell out for one of his suits as there are affordable options out there, but for these totally unique articles...it's hard to describe...they are like 1/6 costume replicas, just unbelievable.

I can honestly say that it is the finest 1/6 scale tailoring available, it has to be seen to believed. None of my 1/1 clothing comes close :lol Sad, I know.

Well, let's see. My best friend made my duster, and he did an amazing job. Not only do I love what he did, I wouldn't throw his work into the trash for someone elses. So no, you cannot change my mind. And I consider what he made a work of art, also. And mine is unique. There's only the one he made for me. Not the same one for 20 people. So I am very happy with that. :yess: I know a lot of you are going for 100% screen accurate. And that's excellent and I am very happy for you. I on the other hand, am getting as close as possible but enjoying my wallet as well. Anzik has brought me some awesome styles for my crew.

Exactly. Like I said a few posts back, up until a couple of days ago I coundn't justify this to myself either. But I was looking at my Mal, and I knew that for me to really be happy with it, it needed that extra something.

And now that Kato has agreed to take the project, I can't wait to get my hands on it. Which is why I am really hoping we can get the 20 people to make this happen.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

well I hope you get it done!

After this all you would need is accurate suspenders. To bad there aren't a lot of Israeli soldiers from the early 90s made in 1/6.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I saw these at the North Texas prop party and I had to sign up here. These are absolutely amazing!
