Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I've been back reading all the old posts but I can't seem to find what people are using for the pants and suspenders. Any help? Thanks.
Also what set of gloved hands is everyone using and how/where can you get setvo's rig? Sorry for all the questions but I didn't want to start gettting to into this until I had the head sculpt coming.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I picked up a set of pants and suspenders from AJ, but they're sold out now so that won't help you. The best I've seen on here though is the German Indy pants.

I've used Bank Robber Joker's hands (painted) and Stevo's rigs are here:

I just got my A.J. set yesterday so I'll throw some pics up tonight!

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

The trousers I'm using are from the toyscity CIA Operative with the stuntman mike head, I re-stitched them to make them tighter, then glued 3mm brown grosgrain fabric over the seam.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Hey folks, I found some earlier castings of Mal and Jayne in my cabinet with poorly filled necks.

There is currently 1 Mal casting with a badly poured neck. If you're interested, I'll sell it at a reduced price, just drop me a line via PM. First come first serve.

Trev, I have got to say that these portraits you sculpted have been the most enormously enjoyable projects that I can remember. They have made me better at painting, given me a reason to try and teach myself to sew, and the construction of accessories has been a blast.
I look forward to the rest of the crew when you get to them so I can make Kaylee's engine room, Wash's bridge, Simon's sickbay, Inara's shuttle and the good shepherd can hang in the eventual kitchen.
Thank you so much for these.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Thank YOU Anzik...You guys make this project a joy with your top-notch custom work! I honestly cannot WAIT to get onto the other characters. Once I make it through all of the castings for the initial three, I'll work on the others! It'll take time, (a LOT of it) but I promise to get through the entire crew.

Thanks for the kind words, man!

This is one of those "if you snooze you loose" things. A lot of the items have been sold out. Try battlegeartoys.com for the pants and suspenders. The pants are CW-TR-21-10 (Lt. Butternut) and the suspenders are CW-BR-70-C. You'll need brown stripes for the pants. I used some narrow brown ribbon I got from Michael's and fabric glue to attach it. Check my photos, it worked great. I have an extra pair of pants with stripes and a pair of suspenders. If you'r interested PM me.

Here's what I've cobbled together (quasi-pun intended... woulda been better if I was bashing a Jayne.) And of course, my camera went MIA so these cell pics will have to suffice for now.

My head is in GDB's very talented hands.

Body: Narrow TT
Jacket: SMcG
Rig & Gun: Stevo
Shirt, Pants, Suspenders: A.J
Boots: Dragon WWII German Black Long Boots - repainted.
Gloves: Bank Robber Joker - repainted
Stand Decal: EVILFACE

Man, looking good. How can I get some of those great Firefly decals for the stands. Who is EVILFACE?

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Evilface is the go-to-guy for custom stand decals. He can produce one for just about ANY license for an extremely reasonable price. And he turns them out lightning fast to boot.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Yep, I've got 2 Firefly decals on order from him, not to mention at least 10 ones from past deals.

He does great work :rock

All very very true! He even took a crappy mock up I made in MSpaint and made me a beautiful 18 x 18 Dharma logo. :) real good guy to deal with!

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

A set of the figures...

...was that a joke?

LOL, sorry dude, I've had people ask me to do dios and backgrounds but never full figures, so i assumed you meant that.
In high school I had 2 years of commercial art which was a 3 period block of art classes each day, then when I started college in 86 I kept going with classes there. Over the years I've sculpted, painted and built some stuff, and without trying to sound arrogant, I think my stuff is decent. My paints are no where near the level of our masters here, my sculpts are ok, with a general likeness but never with the smoothness, and I can build lots of stuff, but not as fast or as polished as guys like Dorgmal Snow. So while I can't produce stuff to that level, I can at least understand the process it takes to get there. I'm not shocked to see how sickeningly awesome Trevor's sculpting talent is, I'm not shocked when I see Small Studios or Boot25's (among others) amazing paint applications. The thing that DID shock me was realizing the talent of the tailors like Chad have. It took me like three hours to make a shirt, and four and a half for Mal's duster. I had no expectation of the effort involved, but I have learned that these guys deserve massive respect. My hat is off to you.

No sir, my hat is off to you. It's easy to buy the sculpts and clothes, but to sit down and craft this stuff up form scratch, that takes talent. To even attempt to sew a duster for Mal or a sculpt paint for Jayne is something I wouldn't attempt. I go out and find bits and pieces and bash together a figure. You create the figure from scratch. That's real talent. Congrats.
