Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

WOW cadaver, you're off to a great start.:clap:clap I think you should rub down those black gloves with brown acrylic paint. If you check the pictures you'll see that the gloves are a very dark brown. Looks like you're using the Japanese officers boots also. I found that the sides of the souls were very light. I bought some brown liquid shoe polish and darkened the edges of the soles. After you get the guns and their rigs on you'll see a big change. The figures get allot of their personality from the guns and holsters. My holster for Mal was very red when I got it from Stevo and I used that brown shoe polish to cut the red look. Keep those photos coming. Love to see what everyone eles is doing.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I am pretty excited for the rigs! I just can't afford zoes and jaynes right now. I think stevo is working on mine this week or next so hopefully I will have one soon.

Thanks for the advise on the gloves and boots. I will do that soon. I work at a shoe store right now so I will use the store use stuff.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Hey cadaver, I think removing the necks has a lot of potential, especially when you consider how many really good bodies you will be able to use for them then. To me it looks like the sculpted necks need to be trimmed down even more though. Find pics of the Hot Toys Leonidas or T-800 Arnold figures and study how the heads have been made to fit figure necks. You're off to a good start, but at the moment you have some pretty ugly transition lines from figure neck into remaining sculpted neck. Take it all the way up to the jaw, ear, and hairline.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I agree with SilentSurfer's critique of the neck line, but I'm loving the wolverine body on Jayne :clap Great work overall!

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Ya I see what you mean. It's way mote obvious in these pictures then in real life. Time to put mal back under the dremel.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I dremeled down the heads more as was suggested and it seems to look a lit better. Jayne doesn't have a huge neck any more. I will post pics when I get home.

On a side note, does anyone know where I could get a really clear picture of jaynes tattoo on his arm?

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

lookin' shiny cadaver202!

As promised, here are shots of the Kaylee casting on the Hot Toys TrueType. The head is oversized, like the other Firefly characters, but you can judge for yourself whether or not you like it.

A couple of these shots show the limited mobility of the head. Due to the volume I tried to give the hair, it limits the range of motion the head can turn. I just wanted all of this to be out in the open so that there aren't any surprises to those who choose to get a casting from me.

The best news is...my molds are ready and I can start pouring these in the upcoming weeks. I have a lot of sculpture work to do, but I'll try to do a casting per day so I can get them ready for you all.

Thanks so much for sticking with me on this project! It's challenging and fun and you all help make it worth the efforts!

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

WOW Trev, she looks fantastic.:yess::yess: Can hardly wait to get her on my waiting bash. As for being to large, With clothes she 'll be about right. I'm looking at my Mal and Jayne right now, and being fully dressed they look perfect.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I dont think that the heads are too large. I think that they are actually more accurate than most figures. Most 1/6 figures are sculpted a bit syalistically to make them look more heroic. Meaning that the head is smaller in order to make them look taller. These figures fix that.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

For me, Kaylee looks great! I love! :love
Hey, Trev', have you planned to make Simon and River heads, too?

One day, I'd like to can have the all Serenity crew. :wink1:

I agree with everybody's assessments, and I don't think we're just being nice cause you're so talented and we want more heads. Most people, especially actors, have very large heads if you really look at them. When you consider actors, the camera adds ten pounds, so Hollywood deliberately picks people who's heads are large so they don't look fat on film. I used to be a knight at Medieval Times (the Cable Guy was filmed where I worked in Buena Park, Ca.) and we used to get celebrities in there all the time, even Arnold Schwarzennegger, and compared to the visual of them in my mind from seeing them in movies, they all seemed to have freakishly large heads and narrow shoulders in person.

You nailed it, Trev. Kaylee's perfect, especially on that body. I said "DAMN!"

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Trev Kaylee looks amazing. Its always nice to see the sculpt on the body and the proportions look just fine. Cant wait for this one. Keep :rock

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Old Grandpa...I haven't decided on footwear for Inara when she comes. Kaylee either. But I will let you know if I find anything that will work.

Kaylee looks amazing Trev, as I knew she would. Can't wait to see the rest of the crew from you, in time.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Thank you much, everyone! I'm really looking forward to getting these ready to go. I should have a few ready this upcoming week. I'll start contacting people as I get castings ready. She does require a little extra effort, as I have to clean up the flash around the edge of the hair, and patch pour spouts, so it could take a little while.

Josh- Man, I'm anxious to see your paintwork on her! You should get to see a copy fairly soon.

Fab- Yep, I'll be doing all of the Serenity crew, including Simon and River. It'll very likely take at least another year to complete, though. In all likelyhood a little longer. :) I'm just trying to do these in between my Sideshow sculpting.

Thanks again!
Trev

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Sorry guys, Trev is correct that the heads are a wee bit larger than 1/6, it's quite obvious with the ones already in hand. Are they still amazing? Uh... yes! Most importantly they are in scale with each other. Kaylee looks great on the body and with some clothes and minor tweaking, the slightly larger melon will not be noticeable.

Thanks again to you, Trev for bringing your considerable talent to this dream project. :bow
