Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Awesome looking hat!

Trev, you have to tell us who you've started on?

PLEASE say Wash *crosses fingers*

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

You're right Prog, but how many years have we been waiting for Eva?
I was even considering and Obitsu for River but I don't have any experience with them.

Obitsu are nice bodies for the price. Unfortunately I have had problems with some of the seams splitting lately on the hard bodies. the ones with the soft squishy busts are very nice and don't generally have the splitting issue. However if you want another body option for her then I would suggest a Volks Dollfie. They have several types and styles to choose from. Their bust sizes range from uber tiney to need a wagon just to carry them. They can be a bit pricier but they are nice quality bodies.

For Volks bodies you can order directly from them in Japan or you can use the USA outlet at https://www.volksusa.com/dollfie.html

That link will take you directly to the 27cm bodies.

Obitsu has the magnet feet that eliminate stands, however this is a waste of money if you intend on putting shoes on her. I suggest purchasing a standard obitsu body and the metal disk separately then install magnets in her shoes.

Parabox shows the whole range of 1/6 obitsu that are available and they do accept us orders.

Junkyspot is an awesome US dealer for Obitsu and Parabox and he really works hard on customer satisfaction. If you want to buy anything Obitsu Emory is the guy to go through. Check out his site he also has some really neat (super expensive) realistic Asian figures. If there is something you want from Parabox that He doesn't have he can usually get it for you pretty quickly.

For my Mal and Jayne I plan on using either a volks Neo Goh Guy Or a Volks Neo Guy

Mostly because I needed a body with the neck sculpted on since I opted to save a few bucks and grabbed one that didn't have the neck completely filled in.

For my Zoey....Haven't decided. Just found out she was comming LOL.

Sorry this is so long winded but I hope it helps.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Very slight build on them. Extremely long legs, slightly loose joints. I think they might be made of resin too.

:clap :clap :clap :clap :clap

Nope they are made of plastic and in some areas Vinyl. Obitsu doesn't make a resin figure yet. Even their 1/3 scale are Vinyl and hard plastic

(yes yes I know resin is still just plastic....but it's a very nice plastic LOL)

I see. I thought it might be resin because of how hard the plastic is. The way it clicks together sounded too rigid to be vinyl.

Their 1/3rd scale are a very hard vinyl their 1/6th bodies are plastic. I can get you a comparison pic if you would like. I don't personally have a 1/3 obitsu but I have several friends who do and they say the obitsu is made the same way as my Dollfie Dream, and I can compare to my Dollzone, Bobobbie, B&G Doll, or my daughters Island doll. They are all different types of resin. Better quality resin is very heavy and feels a lot like porcelain without being as fragile. I have run across some 1/6 scale resin bodies recently, but if memory serves they are all female and have pretty childish bodies. Will have to look again since I would really like to use a nice resin body for the heads.

I can do a comparison pic between Trevors heads and the head that is meant for the Volks Guy body too if anyone is interested. :peace

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Hey all!
I just wanted to give an update on the casting run. I'm going to be taking a hiatus from shipping these out after tomorrow (April 9th) so if I've sent an email your way about your castings, I'll only accept payment up until Friday of this week. I have enough castings to handle a few last minute orders if you never got on the list.

Eventually I'll start up more castings, but I need a break as I'm going to be moving Saturday, and I'm sure it'll take me a couple of weeks to settle in.

Some other characters will show up later this year, so just keep an eye on this thread (or the Whedon section of the board, anyway)

Thank you all VERY much for making this a pleasant experience. It was a lot of work to cast them all up, and there were a few mold scares, but you all have helped make it run smoothly.

Thanks!
Trev

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Thanks for the update Trev. Now I can get started on outfits and gadgets for the other crew members!

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

It may be awhile for me to get everything together to get the figures finished but I just couldn't wait any longer to show the heads off.:joy

All three were painted for me by the master artist, Boot25.:bow

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Sweet, those heads look amazing. I love your Zoe head.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

That's really great paintwork, the only thing I could say is that the eyes look kinda bright, there's not that many people in the world that have eyes that bright

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Wow! Boot did a nice job. I'd say the eyes are a bit bright on Mal and Jayne but Zooey is perfect.
