I bought the deluxe versions, but getting a quality set has been an ordeal. The ones I ordered from Amazon back in February had major paint flaws on all three figures. Flynn had a dark purple paint glob on the side of the face, Tron had a big streak of dark blue paint smeared down the front of one leg and Sark was missing some of the red highlights on the helmet. To top it off, the warehouse worker placed a large bag of food on top of the Sark figure and crushed the packaging.
I requested replacements, but the second Sark figure looked even worse. The plastic was split on the helmet emblem and the right eye was twice the size of the left one. Not only did Amazon customer service refuse to issue another replacement, they apparently flagged my account for suspicious activity. Later that day, I received a warning e-mail claiming the figures I returned were "not received in original condition". They threatened they would start charging restocking fees or only issuing partial refunds on my future returns "as a result" of my recent actions. Having done nothing wrong, I was totally blindsided to get this message and resented the accusation.
I wrote back telling them so, but simply got the same warning resent to me by an OFM "Account Specialist" - which I presume is Amazon's fraud investigation department. So now I have constant paranoia about being permanently blacklisted by the world's most powerful retailer (in the middle of a pandemic, no less) because of Diamond Select's awful quality control. Thanks, guys! BTW, the flaws on these figures were clearly visible in the packaging and the items were returned to Amazon without being opened. How does that not qualify as being in "original condition"? Any damage to the packaging came that way from their warehouse. I'm still flabbergasted by all this, not to mention angry.
I tried to get another Sark at a local shop just before everything shut down due to COVID-19, but went through three more of them before realizing they all had the same defect: the barbell going through the crotch that connects the legs to the torso is ridiculously loose. The slightest movement causes the torso to wobble around like one of those plastic hula girls you stick on your car dashboard. It's almost comical. I don't know what the heck happened with this production run, because the Walgreens Sark appeared to have very tight joints.
Between this issue and the new Black Hole figures being sold out everywhere upon release (and being scalped on eBay for $100+ a couple weeks later, which I've never seen happen so quickly with any of their products), I am completely fed up with Diamond Select. They need to stop soliciting these Disney figures as "waves" only at most retailers. I've not been able to backorder the deluxe V.I.N.CENT and Maximillian because I can't find any site that's currently offering them as singles. I've already got the DST Rocketeer figure, I shouldn't have to buy the damn thing again just to get the Black Hole characters.
