Whoa! That looks awesome! Can't wait for it! Much better than the first one! Seriously, it was terrible.:ohbfrank:

the light jets might end up being over the top for me. i'm not sure. i need to grasp that they are still in "video game" context. maybe if they show someone in the real world playing a similar game, the way "Space Paranoids" put the recognizers in context.

Think its bigger than a video game now as the first trailer ends with the defeated lightcycle player says "It's just a game" and clu replies "Not anymore"

It's grown beyond the lightcycle grid and space paranoids.

I do get the point about not revealing too much and spoiling the surprise by not watching the trailers but I can't help it, we've waited 26 years for this film to be made.

Talk about this reboot have been floating about for the last 5 or 6 years as far as I've known and now it is just over a month away it is too much to bear.

Beleive in the users:)

Well, its a grey area. First of all, the first one wasn't just about video games either, as the MCP was growing into things like the Pentagon and Kremlin already, yet they still used "games" as the basis for most of the vehicles: light cycles, tanks, recognizers.

The second movie has established that there is still a video game connection. In the sneak peak, it was revealed that one of Sam's opponents in the disc game was a character he knew from the video game and owned an action figure of him. I suppose the light jets could be some military program and not a video game (similar to the solar sailor in TRON). I guess what I really mean is in order for me to fully accept the light jets, I need to see what they are in the "real world".

Clu was derezzed/appropriated by zark/mcp, in the first film and might have some of the mcp's characteristics now, as he is the main bad guy in the film.

Wonder if the mcp ever did get that chinese language file?:)

Anyway it dos'nt have to make perfect sense, if the game grid is still up and running, it has grown from the coin operated arcades and now is online with multiplayer and hardwired into most of the planet.
The possibilities where this film and follow ons can go is endless.

As the man said "no problems only soloutions"

I think Clu is just another version of the program, rewritten after it was derezzed by the MCP.

The whole premis of Tron was that the users create the programs and that the MCP was appropriating them for its use. The MCP couldn't create its own programs.

I would suspect that same philosophy to continue, the Grid is limited to what users have created. So theoretically there would have to be a real world application of the light jets. I hope they show what that is, otherwise, for me, it will be a WTF moment when it just pops up out of nowhere.

Well, Kevin created the grid, so whatever he wants to make is fair game. I know it seems over the top, but this system is highly evolved from the last one, so new technology isn't a big leap. Plus, it's TRON. There's freaking people in the computer... LOL

We'll have to see, but I don't think Kevin created all of the grid, otherwise everyone on the grid would look like Kevin.

If they don't maintain the real world connection, then I think it waters down the whole TRON mythos, IMO. I'm not saying "no new technology" just that they have to show that the technology in the Grid was created by users for real world application otherwise it wouldn't exist. "Users created us, a user even created you (MCP)".

Most of the elements in the original TRON verse had their real world components shown or explained. (The only one I don't think they spent much time explaining was the solar sailor).

Yes, Kevin created the grid, but he didn't write all the programs. He ported over some, and created a lot of the objects and whatnot for the programs to use. It's been shown on helloflynn.com

What was the real world equivalent of a Recognizer? A helicopter?
I would think that light jets real world equivalent would be hang-gliders, something that Sam (any even maybe Kevin) was into, being an adrenaline junkie.

:lecture

I watch one, maybe two, trailers for a movie. That's it. I wanna save some for when the movies come out :)

Same here. Too much is given away these days in trailers.

Just watched the interview with Lisberger regarding the Tron blu-ray. I am really hoping that it looks awesome. The DVD was waaaay too grainy.

the "real world recognizer" was in Space Paranoids (as are the Tanks)...We saw Kevin playing Space Paranoids (and some random kid playing light cycles) therefore it helped link the whole mythos of the TRONverse and explain how those things got on the grid. They were written by users, appropriated by the MCP.

I'm not saying light jets can't exist, I would just like a 20 second scene or explanation from the user perspective of what they are so that they don't just seem like random objects on the Grid. I'm basically just asking for consistency between how Tron and Tron: Legacy link the real world to the grid. Otherwise it would seem too much like the Matrix where all a program has to do is imagine it and it would be there. Thats not how the grid works.

I understand your point. I think a lot of the creations made on Kevin's grid never made it outside his work server, especially if he was keeping it secret. It could be part of some new game he was cooking up but the public never saw it.

Extended/alt version check out kevin flynns personal lightcycle so nice I want:)

I'm trying not to watch any of those clips so I can remain spoiler free.

~~If you pre-ordered the soundtrack you can now download the song "Derezzed." It's really short at only 1:44, but it is pretty damn good if it's evidence of how the rest of the soundtrack is going to be.
