So did TRON/Rinzler die at the end of the movie cause I saw his lights got from red to clear or blue.

I would say he rebooted and is "good" again.

Which I thought was very stupid since they didn't have him come back and save the day at the last minute. Seemed like a good build up with the color switching back but there was no pay off to it. :dunno

I saw it as more of...he fought for the humans, saved them, and the changing of the lights was just a bitter sweet thing. Symbolizing that he died doing what he was originally designed to do. I didn't see it as building towards him rescuing them at the end.

I think the lights should have gone out completely then if he was dead. Them switching and not turning off seemed to me that he was a live and good. And him not helping out after than seemed odd. Especially with the ending. Seemed like the whole cyber world was destroyed with Flynn re-fused with Clu. Thus making Tron's return to the good side even more pointless without him saving Flynn.

I think the switching lights is more powerful than just turning off. However if they make another one he'll still be alive most likely.

Also I don't think you could necessarily call it being destroyed...just...restarted? Clean slate if you will. Yeah I know...pretty much the same thing :lol

I think a lot of people have this conception that TRON is actually the main hero of the films. Sure they named the film after him, but even the original, Flynn is the main character. Its Flynn's journey. Flynn sacrifices himself (without knowing whether he'd return to the real world) in order to help Tron defeat the MCP.

In Legacy, CLU is Flynn's creation and therefore Flynn has to be the one to finish him off. I thought it was a nice symmetry to the story to have Tron this time sacrifice himself to save Flynn.

If Tron came back 2 minutes later to defeat Clu after sacrificing himself it would negate the drama of his sacrifice AND negate the drama of Flynn having to defeat his own creation.

All that said, I don't necessarily buy that Clu's/Flynn's convergence destroyed the whole grid.

Here is my treatment of the sequel.

After Flynn/Clu's convergence, Sam Flynn and Quorra return to the grid and become the benevelant rulers of the grid. Think King Arthur and Guinevere.
The grid sees a period of enlightenment and prosperity (mirroring ENCOMS growth).

Meanwhile, Ed Dillinger Jr, an apple that didn't fall far from the tree, is dreaming of ways to crack the system and find glory for himself.

The brave knights, led by a Lancelot type character (you guessed it, this would be TRON!!!) have bravely fought and defeated countless attempts by Dillinger's programs(MORDRED). Piece of cake for Tron.

Suddenly, something has happened. A new piece on the board. Ed Dillinger Jr has discovered the Flynn family secret and managed to transport himself onto the grid. For the first time we have an EVIL USER on the grid. He has all the powers of the USERS. Tron is no match for him.

Dillinger's pressence on the grid creates the dark times and Sam Flynn is dying. The knights of the grid are sent out to retreive something akin to the mystical grail.

Battles between good and evil continue. Eventually Tron and the other knights find the "chalice", resurrect Sam Flynn and they go off and defeat Dillinger and the armies of MORDRED. The End.

....Pretty much a blatant rip off of Excalibur. But nothing wrong with that. The mythology is classic and tested.

IF they are committed to a trilogy, I would end the film similarly to Empire Strikes Back with MORDRED having struck a serious blow against Sam and Tron.

i've seen it a few times and i think your right about the convergence not destroying the grid. in fact didnt caster/zeus say the portal was far away so programs wouldnt accidently slip out?

This would be pretty cool, and I think it would work well. Sounds similar to Neo in the Matrix, but as long as there's lots of disc battles and such I don't care.

:lecture :lecture Well said.

~~Have there been any $$ numbers reported yet. I'd really like to know that another movie is guaranteed or not. Also, I can't wait for it to come out on Blu. :rock

Hmmmm...don't recall personally insulting anyone with my opinion, just stating my impression....after all the bashing I've read in here over the years about movies I like, I thought some folks could manage to take a little of what they dish out...
I'm glad this movie's working for so many in here...just not for me.

Fair enough. I did mention I knew those 10 minutes were completely out of context with what may have gone on before or after that "talky" scene and that I'm getting my impression just based on that...not a complete viewing.

The only thing I'm judging is my level of interest in this after seeing this brief scene. It didn't grab me or hold my interest.

Again, not trying to start a war here...just throwing something into the ring.

You watched 10 minutes and walked out.....the ____ kind of person are you. :lol

I can understand an hour...or at the LEAST 40 minutes....but by the 10 minute mark, we havent even been introduced to the central plot yet....let alone the main characters.

You can hate the movie all you want, but walking out of a movie that you've only watched for 10 minutes is retarded any way you play it. :lol

I'm not sure what part of the movie he saw, but if it was the very beginning Sam hadn't even made it to the Grid yet in the first 10 minutes.

Saw this movie last night. A few thoughts. Liked the fact that it was filmed in my gerneral vacinity (Vancouver, BC Canada.) Very slick, very similar pace (plot wise) to the original, althou' with the updated technology seemed much quicker pace and better. The father/son relationship was depicted in a believable way (if your DAD runs off to the GRID, as opposed to a say younger female :wink1:) Good pop-corn flick overall. Will def. pick up on BLU_RAY

Tron would have sacrificed himself yet again though to save Flynn so he could return to the real world, thus a happier ending. There was no need for Flynn and Clu merge, and I still don't get why them merging would have killed them and everything else. That didn't happen when Flynn created Clu. I kinda see Clu as a horcrux, but just because Clu would die wouldn't mean Flynn would and them reuniting wouldn't kill them either. :dunno

I just don't see why Flynn couldn't return home is what I am getting at when they had plenty of options to save him.

Well, it could be that Bridges wouldn't return for a sequel, so maybe they needed to take him out? Otherwise in pt 3 everyone would be asking "Where's Flynn?". This way a third film could focus on Tron...

From day 1 Jeff Bridges involvement in the film casted a huge shadow. Thats a double edged sword and one of the reasons I think so much focus was taken off of the Tron character. With Bridges not involved in a sequel, I really think that the Tron character would get fleshed out a lot.

Who says Flynn even died? There was an explosion. So? The guy jumped off a carrier into the MCP, which was probably hundreds of feet down. He didn't die there either.

interesting...
would benefit with a human-program hybrid though...son of flynn and quorra hero.:lol

i dunno about that...:lol honestly for a bit I was worried that the "miracle" they were referring to in Legacy was going to be that Sam's mom was a computer program...

the legacy ending points to a lot of possiblities with a program running around in the real world.:lol

doing real world stuff...without copy and paste.haha
