Then you likely would have found the actual appearance of the Tyrant Lizard King rather laughable as well. This is MUCH closer to how T.rex actually looked, as opposed to the JP design.

I like this design better than the JP designs

As always thanks for the info Scar. Your knowledge is greatly appreciated.

I wonder what the ES will be?
I'd say about 200, which is 50 more than the Carnatorus maybe because the T-Rex is a more popular creature???

Any thoughts on this?

Didn't Plan B already do this?

Also, not supposed to hot link pics directly from the SS site, which I just added to the problem by quoting.

Anytime, friend. It's nice to actually be able to talk about dinos with people, outside of my paleo-obsessed friends, who don't just roll their eyes when I go on dino rants. :lol

Could well be around 200. It certainly seems to be selling out a lot faster than the Carnotaurus did, if memory serves.

:monkey3:monkey3:monkey3 Could have just screencapped them, but I was too damn excited to post.

Also, I'm really not getting the Dark Crystal comparisons. Those characters were designed as muted vultures. I doubt people would be drawing the comparisons if the T.rex were, say, the color of male T.rex from TLW. Just a thought that people are taking the "omfgit'savultureorskeksisomg!!!1!!" comparison to a length that I don't even see. If the T.rex had dark skin on its head, as well as a beak, then maybe, but as it stands I don't see it, and both designs are vulture-like for different reasons (one being color, the other being physical design specs).

But he could be BS'ing us and no one would know. :lol

Or I could recommend some books for people to cross check and get into dinos! Always happy to spread the dino love when I can. Sideshow is helping, I'm appreciative.

Aye he could
But I'll take his word for it
He sounds legit
:monkey3

If I didn't know this stuff by now, there's be a lot of people waiting in line to slap the $h!t out of me, as well as a couple who would just be there to savor the moment. One particular professor comes to mind... back in my undergrad I really pissed him off when I told him he was wrong about Brachiosaur blood pressure and neck craning. I brought in a journal article during his office hours to prove him wrong, and he added a sarcastic addendum during his following lecture. Told the class I was in the wrong field and should be a lawyer because "he can go on and on and on about things that hardly anyone gives a rat's ass about." Fortunately my anatomy professor/vertebrate bio professor got wind of it, found it hilarious, and remains my mentor to this day. :lol

Dinos and carnivores of all ages are hobbies. Gotta say I'm a fan of chaotic worlds and dispassionate, calculating killing machines. There's something ^^^^ing wrong with me, and I'm fine with that. :banana

I'm Curious though why SS didn't stick to the Body design of the T-Rex from the first Dio released
As this T-Rex Maquette Body and the Dio T-Rex bodies are differently designed

I was just kidding, I enjoy reading your posts. :banana

Good eye for detail, man! :rock

Was wondering about this too, so I checked the backstory on the VS. dio. That T.rex is meant to be a subadult male, whereas the T.rex in the maquette is a male of extremely advanced age. A lot of species have those sorts of traits that don't begin to manifest until later in life. If you were to compare the appearances of a Saltwater crocodile suspected to be nearly a century old with another Salty that's a subadult, you're going to find two animals that look COMPLETELY different. Even in a lot of modern raptor species, plumage coloration, talon length, and more heavily ossified brow ridges make older adults look unrecognizable from their younger days. Happens in most species at different points in the life cycle. Wild stuff, and I'm glad SS took this route.

man thats awesome.
Your like the Allan Grant of the sideshow forum. :D:lol

Yeah, this piece has me excited for those exact reasons.

There has never been a "high end" dinosaur line until now. Toys were never serious enough about realism, and those boring "scientifically accurate" statues lacked the soul that Sideshow is giving us here. They look like creatures that actually lived, and not as much as static archeological reconstructions.

I was just kidding, I enjoy reading your posts. :banana

I know, man, no worries!:chew But seriously if any of you guys are interested in reading up on dinos, there are a lot of books I could recommend. Even if you're not into the heavy literature with all the taxonomy, muscle and bone distinctions, etc., you could always start with a novel.

JP and TLW aside, Raptor Red by Bob Bakker is far too often overlooked as a great paleo-read. It's really, really, REALLY good! Gets you familiar with dinos and has a lot of good behavioral work in it. It focuses on a female Utahraptor and takes you throughout the course of her life. Also features one of my favorite large theropods that maybe SS will show us one day - Acrocanthosaurus!

I too am really jacked about this line and placed my order for the Ex. SS's initiative on this to depict an individual animal based on the actual fossil record merits big kudos IMO. Quite a radical approach and a big difference from your archetypal t-rex (recently defined by Stan Winston's interpretation) showing 'warts and all'. :rock2

Thanks Scar for saving me the trouble of wading through all my dino lit to get a peg on this piece.
