Good eye for detail, man! :rock

Was wondering about this too, so I checked the backstory on the VS. dio. That T.rex is meant to be a subadult male, whereas the T.rex in the maquette is a male of extremely advanced age. A lot of species have those sorts of traits that don't begin to manifest until later in life. If you were to compare the appearances of a Saltwater crocodile suspected to be nearly a century old with another Salty that's a subadult, you're going to find two animals that look COMPLETELY different. Even in a lot of modern raptor species, plumage coloration, talon length, and more heavily ossified brow ridges make older adults look unrecognizable from their younger days. Happens in most species at different points in the life cycle. Wild stuff, and I'm glad SS took this route.

You truly are the Dr Allan Grant of the Sideshow Freaks

Did SS have a poll in what Dinosaur we wanted to see in the piece after the T-Rex?
WHat were the options again?
As I would love to see a great Variety of Dinos in this line

There was a poll about which Dino you wanted, not necessarily next. I remember Stegosaurus (my favorite and the one I voted for, please, please, please Sideshow!), I think a pteradactyl, a sauropod maybe...

...Raptor Red by Bob Bakker is far too often overlooked as a great paleo-read. It's really, really, REALLY good! Gets you familiar with dinos and has a lot of good behavioral work in it. It focuses on a female Utahraptor and takes you throughout the course of her life. Also features one of my favorite large theropods that maybe SS will show us one day - Acrocanthosaurus!

Added to the reading list. Thanks!

I'm really hoping for the Steg in maquette since it's my favorite I want one by himself.

Yea a Steg Maquette would be cool
I'd like a Raptor Dio or something along those lines
I think that'd be cool

Raptor Red was a good read and like the fact Bakker writes just as well as his non-fiction. I also thought it was pretty funny in JP-TLW, that the paleontologist killed behind the falls by the t-rex was a caricature of him.

Anyone see Predator X on the History channel Sunday? Largest marine reptile (possibly a pliosaur) discovered whose size and bite would dwarf a t-rex. I think a dio of one of these ambushing an unsuspecting plesiosaur would be way cool.

I passed on this one, and since I canceled the T-Rex Dio and Carnotaurus, I might not get into this line at all. I guess it's different what they did, but I wouldn't really want a statue of an elderly T-Rex.

I missed the special on Predator X (was playing Halo 3 online and time got away from me...) but it certainly seems awesome. I'm hoping to catch a rerun one of these nights. For a pliosaur to dwarf Liopleurodon is really, really impressive. I think they're going a little far in declaring it the "all-time apex predator on the planet", though. An aquatic environment does remove a lot of the gravitational and spatial constraints of evolution on land and allow for greater size, but in terms of aquatic carnivores, there are other contenders for all-time top of the food chain. Tylosaurus dyspelor is believed to have been over 40 feet long and dominated the seas it inhabited in its time. And then there's Carcharodon megalodon... which to me would be the unquestioned champ. Now there's a bite force to rival Predator X. Also interesting to note is that T.rex has the strongest bite force of any terrestrial carnivore. Far and away. Different environments, different evolutionary pressures. All are awesome for different reasons. :D

I don't like to compare "best" in terms of ferocity, though. These animals inhabited different territories and niches at different times in the planet's history, and for that reason, since T.rex evolved under different circumstances under a different habitat, I would consider T.rex separately all together. They don't invite comparison for me. One of the largest predators? Predator X definitely has that. I need to watch the special, but it sounds awesome. I love pliosaurs. A ten-foot long skull on a predatory organism with teeth the size of cucumbers... why wouldn't we want to see SS make that?!?! :rock

Now what I would like to see is a Stegosaurus, and personally I would like it in a VS. dio with Allosaurus. :banana

I think these Pieces will become more desirable once they are released due to the small ES's and the Original Designs

Ordered mine! I love the design. As Scar said, every animal is different... and I am glad they are doing what they can to make them all as unique as they were no doubt in life.

I'm taking a class about Dinosaurs right now and this line has been fun to watch as I am learning more about them as well. I would really love to see a Stegosaurus (or any Thyreophora dinos) or some Ornithopods (Pachys or Hadrosaurs), as they would be fun to try and design as far as colors and builds.

I'm all over this line though, I've loved Dinosaurs for a long time... so to have really nice statues of them is a kick for me. :rock

At first I really didnt like the preview of this....after seeing the whole thing now. I really like the colors they went with on this...I also REALLY like the base.

ORDERED!...:D

I find it interesting that they went with the red coloration on the head, as some scientists have speculated whether T. Rex was a scavenger instead of a strict hunter. So the red coloration instantly brings to mind the Vulture, and connects the modern scavenger to the T. Rex. I like that, great thinking there.

Now that the pics are up and all..

I do like it

thanks for the great info, Scar :bow

I hope the paint job comes thru !

Yea that is the only worry of mine
The Paint Job
But with a smaller run you would expect the painters to take time with each piece
