I wouldn't be surprised if his generals stage a coup d'etat. This kid sounds like a loose cannon.
So much secrecy there that it's really hard to know who is responsible for what. But assuming they aren't currently really in charge, a military coup might not be such a bad thing. Hard to imagine how life could be worse for the poor souls living there. I saw a documentary once where an escaped North Korean citizen explained what was really going on, and it was genuinely harrowing stuff. Their geographic location has shielded them from any humanitarian type interventions, but if any country really needs such assistance, it is that one.

Yeah but what can you do? I mean some how Obama got reelected. :(

You know, I hear this stuff on my Facebook page all the time. You're just going to have to let it go. I'm sorry your guy didn't make it, but.......let it go now!

Look at it this way, would Bush or Romney be president, we probably would be pretty close to a war..like a year ago :nana:
Sorry guys had to say something like this.. it's been a while since I made a joke.

we could to call some koreans user here and ask if the media are telling the truth...or if they are telling a lie again...:lecture

I don't need to ask any fellow boardies....I just turn to my wife for the info or ask my inlaws who actually live in SK. Of course the US media has a spin on events, but it's not that different from the truth this time.

To many South Koreans this is just business as usual from the North. They really don't start to worry or get anxious until something goes "boom."

you right but they are ever present, in this case too..I think..
war exists because has to be funded..
however thanks for the support..:hi5:
now I need to ask to all of you..(i didn't have follow the media due the reason upside)
why the korea has taken the decision to attack the usa?
what did they say about this..?

NK does not want to attack the US. This is just more posturing like they've done for the past 60 years whenever they don't like impending sanctions. It's no different than kids in a school yard.....if you want attention you go pick on the big kid.

I think the line is almost fully crossed for them. Sad really. We don't need involved in another war. Fighting the soldiers of the middle east is far different than fighting North Korea. That said we can't back down from this kid.

Actually, a war with NK would be "easier" for the US than the wars with the soldiers of the Middle East have been. NK is more of a conventional military force whereas the Middle East is mostly guerrilla type warfare. The US military is built and designed more for conventional warfare than guerrilla warfare, but a lot of lessons have been learned over the past 10 years....many the same lessons that were forgotten after Vietnam.

I lived and worked with the South Korean military for 2 years. One thing that I'm almost positive of is that the US presence on the peninsula is a huge reason the armistice has been maintained. If the US were to pull out of South Korea, the South would head North for a preemptive strike before the US troops landed back in the US. I heard this on numerous occasions from some fairly high ranking South Korean military officials. After I thougth about it for awhile, it really made sense. The "haves" do not want to lose what they've built to the "have-nots."

Or, who "seems more presidential," for all that matters in the grand scheme of things. Sometimes I think it would be best if we separately elected symbolic/diplomatic leaders and actual heads of state/commanders in chief here, and used different criteria for them.

Yeah, one of my good friends was originally from South Korea, and doesn't seem too worried about all this. Though their complacency may not necessarily mean there is no danger of a real tipping point being reached here.

This is a very interesting current event. Let's try to keep the political bashing out of it so it doesn't get closed down.

I realize with a topic such as this - politics are involved...but saying Bush sucked or Obama sucks, etc. is doing nothing to help this discussion.

going back to the actual topic, the North as we know does not stand a chance to beat the US, but they have enough military force and small nuclear weapons to destroy most of the South.
The 40-50k US troops in South Korea won't be able to stop a 1 million army. The pacific fleet aka the 7th fleet got enough man power to obliterate NK, yet in my opinion all options are open BUT an actual occupation. Because an occupation would mean escalation of tensions between the US and China.
If you recall China has some disputed islands with Japan, and it has been thanks to the US that China has not been able to do what they want about them. Also the Taiwan strait conflicts 1,2 and 3. The US sent the pacific fleet to protect Taiwan. So, US-Sino relations are like an stretched rubber band since the failure of the Kuomintang in mainland China and exile to Formosa.
