More than that, the U.S. is the most powerful and influential country in the world. It's the easiest target for these kinds of claims. That's why folks hate the U.S. in every continent across the globe :lol The U.S. has actually tried to open up diplomatic and economic relations many times over the years, going back most notably to the Clinton Administration. But whenever they take one step forward, North Korea does something stupid and sets them two steps back.

pretty much :lecture

Tragicaly, if the north ever did make a move its not going to be a skirmish with minimal casualties. The lunacy up there is when he decides to do something he's gonna do it big because his family's history established doesn't care for the lives of even his own people. He seems willing to sacrifice them to prove a point.

He's gonna get his nation and so many of their people completely wiped out because if he goes nuclear the only move to make is to return the favor.

I don't really fear the big nations at all. Its the small ones with nothing to lose.

I'm not up to speed on this, but does South Korea possess nuclear weapons?

I wouldn't call it complacency. They're just accustomed to the boy up north crying wolf all the time.

I remember hearing similar statements about Saddam's 5 million man army...and they lasted about 3 days.

Part of the NK propaganda machine is telling their citizens that the US is the reason there has been no re-unification on the peninsula between the two Koreas.

Yes but

1. not against 40-50k troops. the US had 100k+ troops and all sorts of air support, etc. They were prepared to the teeth. Right now our troops are stretched out into Afghanistan, Iraq, etc.

2. The US army was on full moral, people enlisted just to beat up anyone who was accused of 9/11. The American people wanted payback and any cost.

3.Saddam had no nuclear weapons.

4.North Korea has been preparing its entire life for a war like this. (not that it makes them much better, but I feel their army is of better quality than that of Iraq)

Sorry my friend, but that's actually you buying on the propaganda the U.S. shoves down people's throat...
It's much more complex than Good Guys vs. Bad Guys...
This goes back to when Korea was occupied by Japan. I agree that NK is being quite paranoid here, but there's a history behind this.

The history you refer to is an excuse. The U.S. provided Il Sung, Jong Il, and Jong Un all the perfect nemesis to help maintain their grip on power. Of course, the populace knows so little of what's going on that they probably could have made up a country as its enemy and been equally effective.

Pfffft. He's got nothing on Chuck Norris.

Kim Jung IL did not die in the manner that was published.

He was at a dinner party and at the end of the meal was handed a fortune cookie.

When he opened it up it simply stated "CHUCK NORRIS"

Kim Jung IL was said to have laughed out loud....

... just before Chuck Norris's round-house-kick careened off his pumkin head, felling him instantly dead...

true story.

Kim Jung IL attended last year's COMICON in San Diego, cos-playing CHUCK NORRIS...

Chuck Norris was so offended that he ate Kim Jung IL, and when he took a shat...

...the screen-play for G.I.Joe Retaliation appeared...

Whether or not it happens, it's still scary. Especially hearing your city in the line up of cities being aimed at.

I do know that the Gov't is doing a lot (that we will never know about) to protect us all. That helps me sleep easy...er.

Texas? That is pretty far from NK :)
Honestly I don't think NK has any advanced missile to reach that far.
I would think that based on their previous tests and what is known of their missile technology, they can reach..maybe.. Cali.
But if anything, Centcom would be the ones scrambling jets and other anti missile measurements. Even though I think the closest defence air bases are in Arizona. Texas is mostly known for having a big Army stronghold. Perhaps they are under the SOUTHCOM umbrella, which is like 10 miles from me

Specifically Austin. I obviously am not really up to snuff on NK, and what they can/can't do. I am catching up with this thread to gain a bit of knowledge. Thank you for the info. :)

They can't reach anything, they know this and so this is the same thing we see out of there every few years. This isn't to scare us or the world, it's to scare the North Koreans. He wants his own people to believe as others have said, that we are their arch-nemisis, we are still a threat, and that he by threatening us and getting no response is a big man who stands up for them and we fear him. This was bound to happen eventually since he needs to establish himself to his brainwashed public the way his daddy did.

According to statistics, North Korea has at least 3,000 more tanks than South Korea. And worldwide, North Korea stands third (after China) in Tanks. So, if the 50k US troops in the south together with SK soldiers and tanks try to stop a ground assault, I think it would be pretty difficult. Transporting tanks to SK could take weeks (US ranks first of course). BUT in Air power.... US got at least 10,000 more than Russia which ranks second in Air power.....
