If you pay attention you will see I edited out part of his post. How about we all act like adults and just worry about our own posts and make sure they are appropriate...then we don't have to worry about this thread getting closed down. :)

Sounds like just one person causing trouble to me.

Sounds like just one person causing trouble to me.

It was one person that did primarily cause this...and then people responding and him responding back, before I could get everything cleaned up.

It's cleaned up now...so hopefully we can keep this discussion on topic with no political bashing.

So why is it they're threatening to launch against the US, opposed to any other country?
Because North Korea portrays the U.S. to its people as this evil imperial monolith that wants to do lots of really bad things to them. Propaganda 101 rule of fostering fear of a strong, and nasty enemy in order to create a sort of "rally round the flag" effect of nationalist support.

So why is it they're threatening to launch against the US, opposed to any other country?

Because military wise the US is the number one country supporting the South and realizing military drills despite the North opposition.

Also, because the US is the main supporter of UN sanctions against North Korea and its nuclear program.

Thanks, was just curious as to why US and not others.

More than that, the U.S. is the most powerful and influential country in the world. It's the easiest target for these kinds of claims. That's why folks hate the U.S. in every continent across the globe :lol The U.S. has actually tried to open up diplomatic and economic relations many times over the years, going back most notably to the Clinton Administration. But whenever they take one step forward, North Korea does something stupid and sets them two steps back.

North Korea threatens military attacks whenever they feel they are not getting enough recognition. Hey don't forget about our ****ed up society built on repression, fear, starvation and military. They have like no commerce to speak of and the only careers are in the military. Can u imagine being a citizen of north Korea?? Wow what a terrible life! All because of 1 ****ed up mad man. I never understood why people don't revolt. Its one ****ing dude, they need to do to him what the Italians did to Mussolini

You really have to wonder whether the people of North Korea truly buy into any of what their leadership says. I think they go along with it because they fear the punishment, which of course is great and probably death.

This is the same leadership that routinely claims Kim Jung Il did outlandish things like bowling 300 or hitting holes in 1 in golf to claiming he's the son of their god.

No one has any clue whether the North Koreans buy into this because they're all suppressed from the rest of the world. Surely the people realize that if their leader lies about innocent stuff like bowling that he's lying about the rest of the world being against them?

Yeah, one of my good friends was originally from South Korea, and doesn't seem too worried about all this. Though their complacency may not necessarily mean there is no danger of a real tipping point being reached here.

I wouldn't call it complacency. They're just accustomed to the boy up north crying wolf all the time.

The 40-50k US troops in South Korea won't be able to stop a 1 million army.

I remember hearing similar statements about Saddam's 5 million man army...and they lasted about 3 days.

So why is it they're threatening to launch against the US, opposed to any other country?

Part of the NK propaganda machine is telling their citizens that the US is the reason there has been no re-unification on the peninsula between the two Koreas.

Tragicaly, if the north ever did make a move its not going to be a skirmish with minimal casualties. The lunacy up there is when he decides to do something he's gonna do it big because his family's history established doesn't care for the lives of even his own people. He seems willing to sacrifice them to prove a point.

He's gonna get his nation and so many of their people completely wiped out because if he goes nuclear the only move to make is to return the favor.

I don't really fear the big nations at all. Its the small ones with nothing to lose.
