BJ must have forgotten Dana's one piece of advice: don't leave it in the judges hands.

I'm a BJ fan and I had it 48-47 for The Answer. Haven't seen many, if anyone, in the division make BJ's face look like that. Usually it's just sweaty.

How did you have it 48-47 for Edgar when this is what actually happened? https://www.fightmetric.com/fights/Edgar-Penn.html

BJ landed way more shots to the head, way more power shots.

If it was a beauty contest I agree that Frankie won that fight. But imo if the judges are going to give the fight to the guy that has the prettier face, this sport is in serious trouble.

Well, I watched the fight and didn't count the number of kicks, punches, etc that were thrown versus what landed, but IMO Frankie appeared to be more of the aggressor in Rounds 3-5 and BJ looked gassed/injured/flat as the fight progressed.

My comment about BJ's face wasn't me saying Frankie should have won just because of that. It was just to point out that not many other fighters in the division have even left a scratch on BJ's face, whereas Frankie found some way to get through BJ's defense and land his jabs/punches.

Irregardless, we'll get to see Frankie/BJ 2 sooner rather than later.

i see what youre saying. I felt BJ started to fade from the 4th on. Imo he had rounds 1 2 3 sealed. Frankie ended the fight strong with a good 5th round, but did he do enough "beat" the champ? no way.

It's starting to irk me that people are saying that Frakie had such a GREAT fight. He didnt really do crap besides dance around like a jitterbug and land a few jabs. No serious damage done, no significant positions secured....so where was the greatness in his performance? BJ did look tired and lackluster compared to how he fought in his previous two fights, but is that justification to take the belt from him when he clearly outstriked his opponent even if he looked crappy?

I thought Penn won 4 rounds to 1 (I could see it being 3 to 2 at the most) but with that said, Fight Metric is garbage. Not sure why people continue to use that as proof for who won a fight. It's not Compubox, which is a legitimate stat provider used by major boxing orgs (HBO, NBC, ESPN, etc.) and is run by computer experts. Fight Metric is the exact opposite. Hell look at what's on their website:

The system was created neither by a fighter nor a statistician. It’s entirely possible that there are flaws that need to be corrected.

i.e. It's a work in progress and full of flaws.

I know it's not compubox or the like, but It so happens to reflect exactly how "I" saw the fight as well. Penn took 1-3, 4 could have gone either way, and 5 was decisively Edgar's. With that said, fightmetric is pretty close even if they dont claim to be a fool-proof system. Sometimes numbers broken down show more about how a fight went than what you saw. Even if it's not perfect it's still a guideline that can be taken into consideration.

I think a lot of the praise Frankie is getting is due to the takedowns because no one else had been able to do that.

However, the same can be said about BJ: no serious damage done, no significant positions secured, etc. BTW, when they called out the 50-45 scorecard I had to double check and see if it was preceded by Cecil Peoples.:rotfl

I only lightly follow UFC but all I know is Silva is getting killed on this one Twitter Feed I follow. :lol

haha. proof that Cecil peoples is a 'pro' judge compared to some of the numbnuts that are allowed to score these fights.

another judge had it 49-46 or something. so out of 2 judges total, both combined gave Penn ONE round? LOL :lol

WTF...Frankie didn't do enough to take the belt..I don't know maybe he had enough "points" by his hitting and moving (I still say it was 3-2 in that case for Penn) but sorry not enough to take the belt IMO....hopefully it'll be taken from him soon b/c I don't care to see him fight again. Penn must have a bum knee.

Also, Silva you embarrassed yourself and the UFC with your clowning which made YOU look like a fool and not doing anything for the 4th and 5th rounds. I hope GSP destroys you if you can cut weight.

Grove fight was pretty good.

Renzo: Matt give me a hand... I cant get back up.
Matt: Okay

What the hell was that? Should have just been ended right there. Hughes fought like crap in the 1st and some of the 2nd. Leg kicks saved his ass.

I thought it was classy between two vets, unlike the crap that we saw with Silva. If you didnt notice, both fighters clearly had mad respect for each other in the ring. Hughes knew Renzo was about done after he folded him with the leg kick the first time and was hesitant to keep doing it to him or to really hurt him. But of course he knew that Renzo would never give up so he eventually had to pour it on but just enough to end the fight.

True. I give that to Hughes. he did the same with Horace. Silva seems to be bored or something. Maybe they should have 2 vs 1 matches for him.

Renzo fought well. Hope that leg isnt injured.

'm not sure Edgar did enough to win the belt, but even BJ stood there waiting for the decision with a look on his face that showed he felt he lost. He hardly looked like the new improved strength and conditioning animal he's been in his last few fights. Edgar moved a lot, got quick shots in and got out before BJ could counter.

I agree completely with Nash in regards to Hughes helping up Gracie, very classy between two vets with high respect for each other, bravo.

Anderson Silva has proved himself to be pound for pound the biggest ****** bag in MMA. I hope George ST Pierre doesn't take the fight if it's offered to him. Dana should tear up his contract and kick his clown ass out of the UFC.

Is he trying to be a *********? I dont think he is. It does seem like he isnt taking these fights seriously. When he fought Henderson, there was no playing around. Not sure what happened to Silva.

Silva/Maia was a true grudge match. Most people seem to have forgotten that. Silva playing cat and mouse with Maia was probably infinitely more humiliating than a first round KO would have been, imo.

On paper this was basically A Silva vs Thales Leites 2. I mean I give props to Damien for hanging in there, but he was no where near Silvas level which in turn gave Anderson a big head causing boredom and Anderson to act like a dumb ass. I love A. Silva, but he danced more than he fought a really poor performance and again it looked just like his performance against Thales...a "super duper ground fighter" with little to no striking going against a guy with superior totally unorthadox striking with great accuracy. Again you can be a BJJ black belt all day long, but if you cant get your opponent on the ground your as good as a white belt. Again Anderson just made himself look dumb and should have just finished the fight if he was so bored that he felt like dancing so much. I lost a little respect for Silva tonight.

As for Frankie...what I was thinking about was while Frankie looked really impressive with quick movement and getting the takedowns it made me think of Shogun vs Machida. When Shogun lost everyone said he didnt do enough to take the belt. Everyone said to be the champ you have to beat the champ...so what was the difference here. Dont get me wrong Im happy for Frankie he looked good, but if you go by the Shogun vs Machida philosphy...he didnt beat the champ besides some take downs and some decently landed punches, but BJ was also landing punches. Again in that case Shogun should be wearing the LH belt as well. Just my thoughts.

Great fights tonight just disappointed in A. Silva.
