I had it the same. 4 to 1 BJ Penn. Doesn't change the fact that Penn always comes up with an excuse when he loses.

No grease gate this time, though Edger was definately slick on his feet.

:banana *duh, dumm, dah* :banana

meh. I don't know who has more excuses when they lose, Tito Ortiz or BJ Penn.

I dont get how people can say this is BJ making an excuse when BJ didn't say anything. He didnt complain once or say anything about being sick. He's been doing interviews for his new book coming out and has been giving Edgar credit for his win. I guess people just like to read between the lines or make stuff up in their head.

That's BS. His coach Rudy Valentino is the one who announced that. Is Rudy getting fired for releasing that statement? Will BJ Penn release a statement saying he's pissed about Rudy releasing a statement without his knowledge? No. It's an excuse. Period. Same cop out BJ Penn fans had when BJ quit vs. GSP. They all said "Penn didn't quit, his corner did". Same thing. Again.. it's BJ Penn's coach who came out the next day and said Penn had a sinus infection and was on antibiotics. You honestly think BJ Penn wasn't aware that his coach was going to say something!?

Fedor fans do the same thing as well when his managers (M1- Douchebags) outright DUCK fighters. They say "That's M1.. not Fedor". No. When you put people in charge of your affairs and have
people speaking on your behalf that's the same as YOU saying it.

Nash, I know you're a big fan of Penn's but seriously. C'mon.

Why would Rudy even be considered to be fired for releasing a statement to the press? That's part of his job isnt it? And he didn't say anything to hurt BJ or his career.

And yes, I think it is possible that Penn didn't know that Rudy was going to tell the media what he did. This is MMA, it's not Hollywood where your personal assistants have to run every single thing that they are going to say by the actor or actress to protect their image. Is it so far fetched that the media caught up with Rudy V while he was alone and asked him some questions about what he thought about the fight?

It's just the general public who already have a bias to anything that Penn or his team does. They release a statement that clearly says they are not taking anything away from Edgar and that he fought a great fight, yet they let the public know what BJ was going through at the time and it's an automatic excuse.

BJ goes on various national radio shows and Tv and gets asked about why he lost to Edgar. He flat out says that Edgar fought a great fight and had a good game plan. that's it, nothing about him having a sinus infection or being on meds for 2 weeks.

I'd say that the majority of people who watched that fight could obviously see that it was not the same Penn that we saw in the last couple of fights. People are even going so far as to say that he didnt look the same at the weigh-ins etc. For me, it's more about his movement and bounce in his step that he usually has. It was just not there...Could it be to injury? Illness? Lack of training? who knows, but the one fact that we do is that it was not BJ penn at his best.

Im just saying that if Penn's camp comes out and gives a reason, why should it automatically mean that it is an excuse? As a fan, one of my biggest questions was "what was wrong with BJ that night"?

I agree dude, I am a huge Penn fan...but I'd also like to think that I am far from a biased fanboy. I can look at things objectively and say what I did or didnt like.

Honestly, it pisses me off that Penn fought the way he did, whether he was sick or not. He didnt have a good game plan and didnt execute what he was trying to do. Knowing that a lesser calibur fighter like Edgar is going to have his 15 minutes of fame on BJ's behalf is sickening.

This is actually true. This is why people have managers. The manager is supposed to talk for the person they work for. Anything said or done is a direct reflection of their client.

And Fedor does duck fighters. lol He ran from the UFC. :)

In hollywood they have managers to speak for them. Do they in MMA?

All i know is that Rudy V is BJ's coach, not manager.

Because by definition, THAT'S an excuse. :lol

To explain (a fault or an offense) in the hope of being forgiven or understood

ANYTHING said after a fight from the loser to offer up a reason as to why they lost is an excuse.

Just like Tito Ortiz.. he's always "100% healthy" before a fight then he loses and it's suddenly "I was actually dead. I was just recently resurrected for this fight.. so I was really stiff and didn't feel the same. God bless all the Troops overseas.."

BJ Penn, Tito Ortiz and now that I think about it, Ricardo Arona are the biggest excuse makers when it comes to a loss. Just say nothing. Take the loss like a man and move on.

Yes. They do. And also when your trainers, etc. speak about you that represents YOU. These people work FOR their fighters. It would've been different if some random doctor made a statement that he treated BJ Penn and the info got out like that. But this ish is coming directly from BJ Penn's coach/camp "to explain (a fault or an offense) in the hope of being forgiven or understood" i.e. an excuse.
