I guess the thinking is GSP could outwrestle A.Silva and that's where people think he could win. I see the Lutter/Hendo/Sonnen fights brought up as an example of that. Which if you think about it is hilarious since ALL 3 of those guys were submitted ON the ground by Anderson once they got him down. :lol

Uh...yes? Since he already defeated him once before.
:slap

:lol

The thing I'm trying to get at is just a month ago, it was the Shogun era. A lot of fans and experts were saying how Shogun was going to hold onto the title for quite some time. Now after his loss, the notion that he is a cut above your regular LHW is gone? I think it's a matter of Jon Jones being two cuts above personally.

Shogun will do well. Griffon has a crap chin (see Silva's backpedaling KO *** :lol)

Yep agree, even if GSP gains weight hes not going to be able to match the size and strenght advantage of Silva. I see Anderson beating him.

Silva is not a big MW though and we have seen GSP dominate some bigger WW and he's beaten plenty of BB JJ guys too; I don't see size as being the issue.

The difference is GSP has much better stand up than all those guys; and he uses it to get his opponents on the mat; he doesn't just shoot without set up. Not to mention, I think GSP also has a better JJ game than sonnen and Henderson and is much more athletic and explosive.

No I know, but my point was it's not necessarily hard to put Silva on his back but once you get him there you have to worry about subs. And GSP has been subbed before. So it's not like it's a done deal if GSP were to get him down and using the Lutter/Hendo/Sonnen fights to illustrate how GSP could win is terrible since ALL 3 of those guys were subbed on the ground.

The biggest problem like people have mentioned is the size difference. GSP could add weight, but then the attributes you listed (athletic and explosive) would be sacrificed somewhat. Look at Mir, packing on muscle/extra weight did nothing for him against Lesnar and Carwin.

Adding weight could actually negatively impact GSP's game in a fight against Silva who's naturally a bigger guy.

true, we won't know how much of his explosition will be effected by a weight gain until/if he does it, but I think that's why in the past, he has said that he wants a year to put on the weight, so he can work on some of those things. I think GSP has come a long way since his Hughes sub, so I would be suprised to see him get subbed by making a stupid mistake like Sonnen; of course things change when you get punched in the face, but that's not quite the same as being subbed from being lazy.

Regardless I think Anderson would still be to much for GSP. Speaking of GSP, im hoping Jake wins, i just want someone new to hold the belt, plus I wanna see the scrap pack hold more belts.

Anyone watching Bellator...Joe Warren some how pulled off another win after 2 rounds of getting his ass kicked. I just dont get it, that guy is garbage. He looked so terrible doesnt set anything up and jus charges in face first for his horrible take downs.

Yeah that was by far one of the worst decisions I've seen in a while.

30-27!? Seriously?

Pitbull's KO was epic though. I think the hex was the announcers mentioning Wilson Reis' ability to take a punch. Soon as I heard that I was like "Man now he's gonna get KTFO!". :lol

Not MMA, but the Berto/Ortiz fight tonight was F'n sick.

Anyone else taking Shields over GSP? Go Shields :rock

Hell yeah, GSP is going down.

As far as GSP v Anderson, whens the last time GSP fiished someone? I still think the Serra KO changed his style of finishing someone. He can't stand with Anderson, his only hope is a takedown.

And against Shields...lets see. I think GSP may try to stand. Dont know. Shields is a one-sided fighter, we know what he will try to do, almost like Sonnen. But if you believe in Tito Ortiz he said Shields has no chance "zero" and he would bet the house on GSP. Will see. GO Shields.

can't wait for GSP to lose.

And everyone saying GSP is too small for Anderson, give me a break. GSP is a big WW, in fact he is usually bigger than the opponents he faces in his division. what is wrong with him moving up like all great champions do?

im for GSP but i like shields too =(....i will just be enjoying a very good fight....whoever wins ill be happy

Anderson Silva is like 220-230 before cutting down to 185. GSP is like 190 - 195 before cutting down to 170.

The majority of fighters GSP has fought recently are all his size or bigger. Not smaller. Fitch and Koscheck (x2) are both 190 - 195 before cutting down. Hardy says he's 205 before cutting down and Alves says he's 190 - 200 before cutting down. The only fighters GSP has fought recently that were smaller would be Hughes (185) Serra (180) and Penn (168 vs. GSP II).

Still bitter about those 2 Penn/GSP fights?

Yep im hoping George goes down, Im just ready to see a new champ in the WW division. Then Gsp can get a rematch or work his way to the top. Im not even a Jake Shields fan, but i'll be cheering for him on this one.

nah, what's past is past. Besides, at least someone has the desire and balls to fight in a higher weight class.
