First a thumb.. then a toe. This whole card was cursed. It started with one dude dropping out from being dehydrated. Then a whole bunch of eye pokes. Sweet lord. :lol

I guess some people forgot Jon is an excellent wrestler himself :dunno. I'm not sure he could've pulled that off if the fight went to the 2nd and I agree with Joe, something needs to be done about the gloves, the eye poking is ridiculous in this sport. I'd rather get hit in the nuts then have my eyeball detached.

no kidding...i'm going to have nightmares. :lol rogan said they need to change the gloves but I don't see what can be done.

Did anyone else catch someone saying Jared Lives and Extreme after round 1 of bisping Belcher? Its ****ing weird.

just off the top of my head without thinking too hard about it. Why not something like Soccer goalkeeper gloves, except you make the material not as thick around the fingers.

The problem is, the only way to actually solve the eye poking issue in MMA is to use closed gloves like Boxing. Which pretty much eliminates the ability to grapple. So it's impossible. Doesn't matter how much padding you put on a finger, it'll still damage an eye if it pokes one.

well, we can only speculate as we don't know of any existing tests with closed finger gloves. I think some padding around the tip of the fingers is better than none as it could possibly eliminate scratching of the eyeball from fingernails and such. I doubt the UFC or any athletic commission has even looked into it though.

Yeah man I said the same thing. So many eye pokes and the reffing was questionable also. It was just a mess of a card.

I will say Chael looked really good for about 30 seconds in the clinch.

Actually we do: Boxing Gloves.

The thumb part is separate from the rest of the fingers and it's heavily padded yet it STILL results in eye pokes when fighters "paw" at their opponents. Which is why it's illegal and why refs will warn/deduct points/DQ fighters for doing it. Doesn't matter how much padding you use or even what material you use, anything jabbed into an eye will result in temporary blindness.

As annoying as eye pokes are its never going to stop. Its an annoyance. But humans have toes and fingers and they are a vital part of how we balance, fight and move around. To take away the ability of free finger movement it wouldnt be mma anymore.

Id rather look in to some kind of eye protection before changing the gloves. Something like you see professional swimmers wear that tightly hugs the head but is made unbreakable so theres no risk of them breaking. But even then it would be bad. It would visually impair rather than physically.

Anywayyyy. Interesting night. Happy with the Nelson and Bisping fights (though had to turn away at the end of Bispings *shiver*)

Dammmmmnnnnnn!

yea, he gonna be out for a long time with that injury. If only Chael could've survived for 28 more seconds, they prolly would've stopped the fight though.

well these maybe the future gloves of the UFC, although the pokes always seem to happen with faints or the fighter trying to push off the other guys face to avoid strikes, maybe the rules should be changed so it's close fist faints only and no open hand contact to the face while standing.
