I like all the Matrix films. Never really understood why others couldn't enjoy them. Some of the dialogue and speeches were a bit pretentious but otherwise I liked what they did.

Forgot about Jaws 2 before. I always liked it, even if it's not as good as the first, which let's be honest, was never going to be topped.

On the subject of Temple Of Doom, it's always been my personal favorite Indy movie. I love the darker, harsher tone of it and how intense it is. I was so shocked to see the disliking for it when I first used the internet so long ago.

The problem with the sequels for The Matrix are..

1. They weren't necessary. The first one would've been fine as a stand alone piece.

2. The 2nd and 3rd movies are essentially one movie split up into two parts to make more money. So neither stand alone on their own (which is a flaw IMO when it comes to sequels).

3. The appeal of the original film was everything was new (The Matrix world, the special FX, Neo's powers, etc.) but in the second movie (and definitely by the 3rd film) it loses all of that charm. The fight scenes just become tedious and downright ridiculous. About the only thing worth watching in the 2nd film is the freeway chase scene.

(1) The first Matrix is still fine as a standalone piece. Just like Begins and TDK are (I like TDKR ... but it isn't really a standalone). But, while a fine standalone ... The Matrix leaves a lot of the story untold. Neo defeated Smith ... but the entirety of humanity still lives in a hole in the ground at the end of that movie.

(2) I'd agree with that. I didn't mind splitting it into two, though. Would've been awful long for one showing.

(3) A bit of Jurassic Park syndrome, maybe. The first one was great mostly because of the newness of the dinosaurs ... the second and third couldn't rest on that nearly as much. Still, I thought they capably told the rest of the story of the Zion revolution. The in-Matrix fight scenes got escalated -- as expected -- but I thought they turned out fine. As the hero and villain get more powerful, mirroring one another ... you'd expect the fights to escalate.

I actually liked Matrix 2 and 3. Reloaded had some great action set pieces. There were a lot of characters, and it got more complex ... but I liked how they worked Smith back in as a virus.

Revolutions was clearly the worst of the group ... but the fight at the end was really cool. Actually, its a bit of what I always pictured a Superman vs. supervillain (Zod, Doomsday, whomever) fist fight would look like. The overall plot wasn't terrible ... it was just set in the 'real world' a lot, which removed it from the cool visuals of the other two movies. It was a touch confusing, and I'm not all that easy to confuse. It took me a time-or-two to figure the ending.

I think we all pictured that my friend! Imagine Superman VS anybody with that epic music

Who knowns, Mabey well see somthing like that in Man of Steel!

I just remember going to see the 2nd Matrix film at the cinema with my girlfriend (at the time), & we were entertained - in the wrong way.

We just couldn't take it seriously. That scene where there's 50 Hugo Weavings fighting Keanu was too much - it brought genuine tears of laughter to our eyes. :lol

That said - I was never a fan of the series anyway..

Yeah that scene did nothing for me. Much longer than it needed to be. OK we get it, he can keep fighting the Agent Smiths and keep *** whupping them but they'll keep coming.

Other than that though and aformentioned pretentiousness of some dialogue scenes, really enjoyable films IMO.

I insist that you put Halloween III: Season of The Witch near the very top of that list.
:lol

I love halloween 3. Halloween 3 was way, Way better than some of the other Halloween sequels. Some of the Myers movies sucked compared to that one.

Beneath the Planet of the Apes managed to have the shock factor of the previous film, shame it didn't have the budget for the same ape make up effects.

I just watched this the other week, and definitely agree with you. It's much better than the following sequels.

I've never seen Halloween III but have always wanted to. It seems like a cool movie, it should've just been a seperate film with no connection to the Halloween/Michael Myers saga.

It was. Carpenter wanted the Halloween sequels to be different stories set on Halloween. You get the Myers chapter, then you get the Season of the Witch chapter, next year you'll get something else, ect.

It would've been the best horror series ever made because of that. There's no end to the possibilities they could've gone with the franchise being a anthology series.

But no. Nope. Shame I found all this out really late in the game. But still. I wish someone would try and do something like that.

Yes. I think that's probably the best Halloween movie. (Movie about the holiday, not the franchise). Halloween is a good film. But it's not entirely about the holiday itself. The holiday is more of the setting. SoTW is about the little tropes we know and love, but turned on itself in a really dark way.

Trick r Treat comes in close second.

I'm a little surprised Ghostbusters II hasn't been mentioned more, but in a way maybe it isn't surprising considering it gets so much hate just about everywhere I look. Like Temple Of Doom, I was shocked to discover how universally disliked it was all over the internet when I first started using it back in the early 2000s. I was always under the impressing growing up during the pre-internet age that GB2 was considered as good as the first if not just a wee bit lesser than it, but I would've never imagined it being as loathed and vilified as it often is.
