True, 'Cane will probably upgrade his Vader with the SS clothing and definitely the base suit. But he's been doing this for so long now, he's really got it down to a science.

We may find that all he does with the SS Vader is add lights and glowing saber and voice function. Might help those who can't afford a real Hurricane full-mod Vader. Now they can just get their SS one "lit-up" for probably a fairly reasonable price.

Ironically, this will probably create more business for Hurricane rather than dampen his sales.

Absolutely true. Tons more business for Cane Vader upgrades. But let's face it, NOTHING comes close to a hand crafted Custom Cane Vader.

so has anyone else's excitement about a SS Vader been lowered a bit in anticipation for their Hurricane Vader? still excited and will be first in line though.

I have almost no interest left in a SS Vader, I mean hurricane's version will be perfect and since SS's prices are really growing I doubt I would want to spend all that money on a second Vader.

I'd rather see Sideshow make Stromtrooper's so I can display them with Vader.

Agreed :chew:chew

I'm hoping SS does an ANH version since I'm getting an ESB from Hurricane. I also have a Medicom ROTS version so I'll have all bases covered.

thanx for having faith in me, guess it was inevitable from SSc but i thought theyd try other armored figures first.Ho-hum-hey,anyway things here are:-
new design for cape collar, first of the 1/6 metal ePIV saber hilts (lord vicious') ANH 'prop'accurate basic one almost done, ESB basic almost done too, deluxs' having new internals made, hopefully incorporating PE parts.

Glenn let me know through e-mail that my ESB basic(the one mentioned in his above post) is very near completion. I am seriously excited!!!

Glenn, are you serious? At this point, I honestly don't see how you could make these any better than they already are. You've created what is perhaps the greatest line of custom 1/6 figures ever and I honestly don't know how they could be improved. I'm sure Sideshow will come up with a very nice Vader(they should after making us wait this long), but I also know it will pale in comparison to one of your customs.

What he said! Your Vader's are without a doubt the best out there. You're attention to detail and dedication to making the best Vader's in the market is unparalleled. Just keep on doing what you are doing!

The only improvement I can see is something I saw in Les' ANH Vader... Actual tinted lenses where you could barely see through them to the reveal underneath. To me that was the coolest ANH Vader custom fig feature I have ever seen.

yeah that's another feature that would be sweet.

aside from that and maybe an updated body(not sure which ones you use), not sure much more can be detailed unless you charge $1,000 for them. The light up feature in the belt, chest box and my favorite, the lightsaber is enough for me but you even went a step or two further and did the etching, evil vader headsculpt, etc.

Hmm... how can these be better?

They are unbelievably fantastic now, Glenn, but it seems you've been moving in the right direction. Newer fabrics, more accurate tailoring, extreme detailing.

I would say anything that you can do on a hand made, OOAK custom level that SS and other companies can't do, or it would cost prohibitive for them to do is where it's at. Lights, voices, light up saber, metal hilts and helmet detailing, etc. You're already toying with the idea of the interior face mask details. The PE parts are a stroke of genius. Without having one right in front of me I don't think I can come up with any specific critiques. You probably know better than any of us what the "weak" elements are in making these and what could be further tweaked. But as I and others said these are damn near perfect as they are. :rock

btw, did you get my email?

This may anger a few folks, but I would love to see you resculpt the SS Anakin head and make him into an ROTJ reveal of old Anakin. That would be pretty awesome in book.

Hey Glenn,

When you get a chance, check your PM's if ya can (I know you've probably got loads of them tho!)

I'm still waiting to hear back about the RC and Custom blaster. Thanks!

Well, it's difficult to criticize something made as lovingly or beautifully as your Vaders, and not having ever held one in my hands, I can only go by what I see in your pics.

But here's my thoughts.

From what I can see, there's a few areas that I would think would improve the overall look of the figure tremendously.

1. I think the suit hangs a bit oddly on the figure. I can't be more specific, sorry, but it just looks ill-tailored.
2. The boots don't work for me. Unfortunately, they look as what they are: cobbled together.
3. The gloves and hands: ditto.
4. The fabric for the cape doesn't seem to hang very well. Maybe it is too thick?
5. I usually find your Vaders too broad-shouldered. I've always had this image (weird, I know) of Vader being slightly droopy-shouldered...
6. To me, the neck looks just a tiny bit too short.

Reading over, I realize I've written more about the way the figure looks, and probably not about things that could be made better. Sorry about that.

I suppose the shortcomings (in my eyes) are mostly due to the fact that there is no base figure. There is no 1/6 scale Vader that can be modified or customized, and the materials for things as important as the outfit and cape are not just lying around waiting to be customized. There are no 1/6 scale Vader boots out there. And that makes what you have achieved even more astonishing!

Anyway, sorry for the critique, I hope it didn't come out offensive.
I wish I could see one of your beautiful creations in hand!

But I do know one thing: from the day the SST Vaders start shipping, your work transforming those into true works of art will be doubled man!
I know I will order two Vaders: one to keep as is, and one to (one day) send to you to get the complete overhaul. Light up saber, brass etching, the works!

To answer the poll in the SW thread, yes, with the release of the SST Vader we will see the ultimate Vader action figure, but only after it's been reworked by you!

all duely noted, i address quite few of the above issues, as for lenses been there done that and easily added to the delux ones, ive actullay got tinted full size stormmtrooper costume lense material to heat form for this:D
the boots arent ideal on my own ANH i used Yavin lukes boots which look alot better but dont offer much ankle articulation.the gloves are a problem ive tried to creat actual fully fitted gloves but incredibly dificult but gonna try again with the material the suits are made of now.Im gonna try to blend the seam 'tween casted hands a faux leather better too.not etirely sure on the body, i fill my own costume fairly squre shoulderedly? and im not as big as DP... but just studying some ANH screencaps, yep needs 'drooping' slightly, and the 'screen prop' ANh sat here has this more closely as the shoulder joints were modded cape id guess' do with water treatment, ill try it and then if it works each one'll get done prior to fitment.stay tuned ill address all the above ASAP thanx for the input

Anything else? Geez, apparently either I'm really simple or you're way too picky because I don't find problems with any of the areas you mentioned. If you can honestly look at this picture and say it's not the best damn 1/6 Vader ever created then I don't know what else to say.

Glenn, I hope you don't take abake's critique too seriously because I don't want my basic ESB to look any different than what is pictured above. It's absolute perfection IMHO.

not offended at all, i look at anything said with interest to see what i can improve, even take the odd figure to friends who have no real interest in action figures and ask them, sometimes you cant see the wood for the trees.
