I was pretty excited about these when they were first shown but I think it's worn off... I think if they were MOTUC size I would still have picked them up, though.

I can understand that, but I will say other than wonky eyes I feel like the TCats are made of sturdier plastic whereas MOTUC feels soft.

Are they not the same scale as the MOTUC figures? I just assumed they were :huh

No recent vintage pick-ups for me either. At this point I'm considering what line to focus on next; I'm thinking either Joe's or Super Powers. I prefer Super Powers, but since I only want about 12 Joe figures that might be an easier one to work on.

I'd say they're closer in scale to the classic LjN figures. JOES are dead right now, let me know who you're looking for. I might have some extras I can throw your way.

Which Joes? I'm curious...

Actually its fewer than I remembered:

Cobra Trooper
Cobra Commander
Destro
Duke
Scarlet
Snake Eyes
Storm Shadow

That's a solid group to start with.

Personally, I would add at least Hawk V2, Shipwreck, Flint, Lady Jaye, Zartan and the Baroness to that group. And maybe a VAMP.

Watch out. Joes are addictive! ;)

So, any new vintage news/buys this weekend, folks?

Nothing lately. I still need to pay for the eFX McQuarrie helmet and then I'll get back into picking up some more vintage SW figures. The BD changes aren't enough to make me quit completely, but I will never own any collectibles related to the PT or OT changes.

How difficult are vintage Joes to get in good condition? I have visions of paying out of the nose for a Snake Eyes or Firefly that ends up being as loose as the girls I would date in my early 20's.

No buying here. I had to buy my son glasses, he developed a lazy eye, and pay the 900 balance on our Disneyland trip, which is next month. So outside of my last haul there's nothing... I did get that Mr Perfect figure though. Mattel did a great job with the legends line as far as likeness and overall attention to detail is concerned but the scale is just horrible. Steamboat comes up to the Macho Man's chin who in turn comes up to Mr Perfect's mouth... So Ricky Steamboat was either 4'9" or Curt Hennig was 6'11".... anyway, it's enough to have me wanting to sell them and I only just got into the line a couple months ago.

Not a new acquisition, but now that I'm finally going through those Dino-Riders I bought a while back, thought I'd ask - anyone have spare parts for these?

Not hard to find in pretty good condition, just make sure the guy selling says as much and hold him accountable. V2 Snake Eyes, Firefly, Stormie, and other more popular figures will cost more, of course.

But one thing to consider is that the plastic becomes pretty brittle as time goes on, so I wouldn't do too much with them once they're in-hand (including trying to put weapons in their hands or even to use stands with them). The 82-83 figures are the worst culprits, and there are a disproportionate number of crotchless Dukes ( :horror ) but I figure it's just a matter of time before the subsequent figures experience the same fate.

:lol That depends on what you want, the more siught-after characters are going to be more expensive. Just don't be fooled by weapons pack "complete" figures. I'd say now is the time to buy, vintage seems to be in the ____ter. But the rare stuff always rises to the top.

Gak! Those are horrible, Prime... Horrible!

Those aren't Joes...

Well look who chimed in with his expert O-pinion! :wink1: Yeah the elements really do take their toll on the Joes, I have a Shipwreck and Spitit that have both faded for no reason. Thanks ro Ski I was able to replace my snow whire StormShadow that turned yellow on me. It's a gamble, you never know when this stuff will literally turn on you. Also like Sam said figures do fall apart, my Zap is in pieces. Literally.

My 8D8 figure turned yellow on me for no apparent reason. I had it displayed away from direct or indirect sunlight. When I bought him he was a nice white color, then a year later I picked him up and he looked like he'd been sitting in piss for the last 30 years :lol

Luckily he's a cheap figure so replacing him is not a problem; still odd though when something like that happens for no reason.

Hey, Joes and TFs were what got me back into collecting a few years ago, and YoJoe.com was one of the first toy message boards I joined, so I consider myself pretty familiar with that stuff.

Degradation of O-rings is also an issue, though for me, not a huge one. I think it is assumed that O-rings are gonna be switched out for older figures at some point. Easy enough to do. I certainly wouldn't hold it against a seller for not having the original O-rings.

As for yellowed figures, I haven't tried it, but some swear by the hydrogen peroxide trick:

https://heroicdecepticon.blogspot.com/2010/12/whitening-yellowed-transformers-toys.html

From what I've read, sunlight doesn't necessarily play a role, as others with stored figures experienced yellowing. Seems to be the nature of the plastic.

I've never tried or heard of using peroxide... but the results in the link are pretty badass. I'll give it a try. I've got some peroxide at home, but not sure what percentage it is.

I'd say it's a decent time to buy the more common vintage figures, like Dusty, Bazooka, etc. Still awesome. Army builders too. BATs and Crimson Guards used to go for a lot more than they do now...

Storm Shadow V1 and Snake Eyes V2 will always be popular though. Not sure if the prices on them have gone up or down, but I imagine they'll still cost you a fair bit. I haven't been paying TOO much attention too these, since I've more or less completed '83-'87, but the more rare stuff has gone up considerably, like Gold Head Steel Brigade, Ninja Viper, foreign exclusives, etc. I think the 25th line brought in more RAH collectors than people think.

Duke and Cobra Commander may be a bit easier to find. Probably cost you at least $25 each or so mint/complete. Beware you don't get the "Chinese" versions, unless you don't really care about that... (they are identical except made some years later, and say "Made in China" rather than "Made in Hong Kong" on their butts).
