Hey guys. I'm trying to organize my collection and am wondering at what age you would define a toy as vintage?

Thanks!

Yeah, when you're talking action figures, I would agree with pre-1990s (actually, pre-late 1980s), because anything that is somewhat classic and original is vintage, right? And by the time the '90s rolled around, everything was lame and/or derivative of stuff that came before.

I think I might just have landed my bargain of the year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Stay tuned...

Some Vintage Kenner Love

Hey all,

Quick post Celebration VI update. I searched specificly for some vintage 12 inch Kenner Star Wars figures, and boom I found all that I was missing, including a MINT COMPLETE IG-88!

The photo is a bit rough sorry I took this in my hotel room after the convention. All figures are complete, and in fantastic condition. Prices were fair, and I found many dealers willing to bargin even on the first day. Feel free to share photos of your 1978-80 Vintage 12 inch too!

How much did IG-88 set you back? I saw incomplete ones going for over $100. :cuckoo:

He was listed at $175, but I got the dealer down to $150. Took it to the Toy Hunters booth (Jordan Hembrough) and he said that a boxed one was about $375-450 in mint condition, and a loose complete one in the condition mine is in should retail at $200-225. So I got a great deal, and couldn't be more thrilled. I have wanted one since it was released in 1979. Turns out that Kenner only shipped these figures to the midwest and east coast. So as a kid in California I would never had seen them on the shelves. Once the 12 inch line was dropped the figures were pulled off shelves completely. Go figure.

I'd agree with anything pre-1990's. And I'd agree with sithjedi that anything SW would have to be from the origihal POTF or earlier to be vintage.

Of course that could change in 10 years, or maybe vintage will become classic and 1990's-2000 will become vintage :huh :lol

Re: Some Vintage Kenner Love

Thanks guys. I didn't know there was a vintage thread. Oops. If the mods want to to move this over, that would be great!

I'll move it on over to the vintage thread :duff

And great scores, I love the 12" line. Every so often I tinker around with collecting them but for now am content just having Vader.

For now vintage tends to refer to action figure lines that began in the 80's or earlier so it will depend on the line. Vintage SW goes to 1985, He-Man up to 1987, and GI Joe: A Real American Hero's vintage line lasted all the way until 1994.

Thanks for all the definition guys. I collect SW, Alien and dabble in Planet of the Apes so I figure 1985 should be my cut off.

On a side note, I need the "12-inch" jawa and tusken so badly!
