I'm going to pause tonight and leave you with an amazing gem of a video. You all remember those Disney Parade specials or programs introducing the latest new ride, complete with celebrity hosts?

Well this... THIS amazing thing is a montage of all the best (worst and most awkward) moments one right after another. Some you'll recognize and some you'll go WHOA hahaha.

I mean... Bea Arthur singing? Regis Philbin making a fool of himself? Tony Danza strangled by a boa while everyone jumps out of the Jungle Cruise? C-3PO rapping??

I watched this four times today. It is quite literally the most amazing thing and the most terrible thing. It is: THE GOLDEN GIRLS RETURN FROM SPACE MOUNTAIN.

We're thinking about going to Disneyland in mid-April. Would there be much difference in the crowds on a weekend vs mid-week then?

Mid-week is ALWAYS better than weekends in most cases. Depends on if it's Spring Break though.

I got more pics to share but first... my newest eBay win!

It's a replica Cast Member badge when the employees were only assigned numbers. This one belonged to Walt Disney. It was until 1962 when they started using real first name badges.

Geez...that guy has been doing the Jedi Training thing for some time now. He was the "instructor" in 2006 when he picked my son, Alex to participate. My son made quite an impression on him when Alex showed up decked out in a full Anakin Skywalker costume complete with his own lightsaber. Alex however lost his nerve at that final moment and sat back down. And he was there in 2008 two years later when Alex regained his courage and was again picked to participate (sans Skywalker duds). My son was a bit disappointed that he was picked to fight Darth Maul rather than Darth Vader.

That guy is VERY good at what he does... very quick witted and gentle with the children. FAR better than the Jedi instructor that my son had in 2010 at WDW where he finally got to face down Darth Vader.

Alex is going to try and slip in another training visit when we go to Disneyland next April... even though he will be 13 and technically too old to begin his training. Yeah, well so was Luke.

I hope he will be the trainer on duty then.

Yah, he was an excellent host and made the entire show completely hilarious... but not because he was funny, but how he interacted with the kids.


This kid here is completely adorable and was just a complete nervous wreck. Just stood there wide-eyed at the people staring at him that he wasn't paying any attention to the Jedi Master.

Here, he's talking about certain instructions to do right in front of him but he's still wide eyed and not doing any of it.

He has trouble with his lightsaber throughout the routine but the Jedi Master would always find a new way to convince him that the saber was broken and that he could use his. He did this maybe three times.. and the saber of course isn't broken, the kid was just too young to understand how to work it. But it was very cute and fun to watch.

Inside the Golden Horseshoe at Disneyland is the BILLY HILL AND THE HILLBILLIES show. Everyone on stage has a nametag that says Billy and they all refer to each other as their brother... which at the start you go "awww" and then as the show progresses you go "wait a minute..."

Very entertaining show with very talented musicians. A rare treat anywhere... and it's all part of admission.

LOVE THESE PIX! They convey perfectly how talented this Jedi instructor is! I watched him a couple of times, even when my son wasn't involved to see how he interacts with a particular batch of kids...and he never tries to up stage them.

And each time he makes the whole proceedings feel completely fresh and fun to watch even though I've seen it dozens times.

I'm ashamed to say that I've never done the Golden Horseshoe Revue at Disneyland. I hope to rectify that oversight next April.

I remember that Wally Boag at the Golden Horseshoe was a particular influence on Steve Martin when he worked there.

Yah, it was really great, and that was MY first time seeing them as well. Oh and in case any of you are following along on the Leap Year chronology, Billy Hill and the Hillbillies came on at 11:15pm. I had a friend save us a table for the hour while me and a friend hit up the Tiki Room.


We wandered through Fantasyland after the show...

And waited maybe half an hour for the Storybook Canal Boats

and King Arthur Carousel

We wandered some more... and found that it was just insanely crowded. Lines for everything was so long.

Surprisingly... Dumbo had a very SHORT wait so we did that.

And then another nap on Pirates!

Last day here at Disney. My wife is loving her birthday present.

Absolutely love this show.

Further pursuits on Leap Year... this is 'round 5am now.

Entertainment is still out in force

On our way out, you can see the sky turn into a blue that only happens when the sunrises.

Main Street Cinema was technically our last attraction and we found many hobos sleeping inside.

One last goodbye to Disneyland. Thanks for the 24 hours!

And that was it. Had a great time but by golly.... it was exhausting. And the drive home was even worse. If I do this again, I'm definitely getting a hotel!
