Re: WATCHMEN Movie Discussion (SPOILERS)

who are you again?

I must have missed the memo that only certain people are allowed to share opinions. Now obviously there will be a percentage of people who think books published over two decades ago require spoiler warnings and a subset of those people will stupidly enter a thread with "spoilers" in the title and a subset of those people will decide to blame others for their lack of common sense. Perhaps those people aren't the only ones entitled to voice an opinion here?

You must be that person who likes to go a see a movie the day it comes out and goes to see it again and again all the while shouting out what's gonna happen next.

Is that really the best you can do? I assume you use spoiler warnings when talking about The Empire Strikes Back...

Re: WATCHMEN Movie Discussion (SPOILERS)

We're going to keep the Watchmen thread on track, I promise you that. This thing gets locked or moved to the sandbox over my dead body. Take your bickering elsewhere, those who want to bicker.

Latest video journal is up, by the way!

Tom did you check out the pics at AICN?... Awesome shots of Nite Owl's "lair".:D

Re: WATCHMEN Movie Discussion (SPOILERS)

Yes, let's keep this on track and eliminate any spoilers from other properties. However I think that talking about the book Watchmen is on topic and fair game for a thread title "Watchmen movie discussion (spoilers)".

If it comes about that there are differences between the book and movie - then I would expect people to use the "spoiler" tag, even in this thread.

The only spoiler I heard about the movie is that

the "villain" is supposed to get a more definitive end as opposed to the somewhat open-ended result of the graphic novel where he is left unpunished (well, until the journal gets published quite possibly)--- if this is true I don't like it. I prefer the ambiguity of the graphic novel's conclusion.

Talk to the book police. I even posted new pics to keep the thread rolling.

I was just upset that I had a major plot point ruined for me because someone didn't know how to use the spoiler tag and some other person took it upon themselves to scold me about not reading a 22 year old book. Lame.

I'm loving the book so far and I'm sure I will enjoy the rest and I'm super psyched for the movie, oh yeah and Rorshach is my favorite character. :(

This is a spoiler thread, dont read it if you DONT want to be spoiled.

I was reading the book last night, and I cant WAIT to see Rorscharch's prison break scene. That'll be awesome. That and when he found that child killer's home. That will probably be the most intense scene....for me it was the most intense in the book. The knife marks on the table...the underwear in the furnace....WOW.

That and Mason's death. ^^^^ that pissed me off.

Mason's death is horrific. I hope they don't glamorize the Sally Jupiter rape scene, but 300 doesn't give me much hope. I don't see how they can possibly fit this story into a single film.

Working on a Comedian costume for Dragon*Con.

"God help us all."

Best costume you'll ever wear dude !!!!:rock

The Book is probably in my top 3 comic book I ever read ( And I've been into comics for 25 years)...And this book is spectacular at every page you read, but for me, the Comedian steals the spolight in every scene he is in...I just hope the actor who plays him, make this character shine like in the book...and by shinning, I mean being the most bad ass and the biggest a-hole at the same time...The Comedian understood the big farce, the big trajedy of our own miserable life..I wanna see this on the big screen.

300 was perfect. Exacly how it was in the comic, with a few extras thrown it. Zack knows what he's doing.

As of right now I'm curious because the trailer was great. I have to wonder who will be satisfied with this movie, though. Hardcore fans will have to deal with massive editing of the story and casual comic-movie fans who expect action will probably not be thrilled with the talky characters and resolution.
I know it's all speculation... just wondering. The release date may be an indication that they get that this shouldn't be built up to be Spiderman 4. But the amount of press I see about it seems to suggest otherwise.
What I know for sure id that interest in this book is through the roof now. My friend is a comic shop owner and he can't keep the TPB in stock. And that is happy news, regardless.

Except for all the stuff that wasn't in the comic, of course. And let's not forget the glamorized rape scene in that movie. 300 is a terrible movie in almost every respect.

The problem of course is it looks amazing and badass ... and then you realize that having the characters look amazing and badass misses the entire point of these characters.

HA! Haha. No. No its not. And how was that "Glamorized"?

*Thurst*

Nothing was flashy about it. Its a fun stylized action packed movie. And on that notion, it kicks ass.

My reaction was more to the Manhattan imagery, though I didn't feel they went overly badass in the trailer. But of course, if it follows typical Hollywood fashion they could do just that. Like I said, it's all speculation for now.
I also haven't seen 300, so I can't speak to that. I'm not the Frank Miller fan I used to be and all those greased up bearded guys aren't my cup of tea.

HA! Haha. No. No its not.

It's really a quite dreadful movie in several respects, not least of which is its failure to convey incredibly basic story elements like time or geography. Snyder is able to replicate comic artwork reasonably well but so far he hasn't shown an ability to tell a story, much less one that features actual human emotion. Perhaps Watchmen will show he isn't just the latest McG. The trailer doesn't give me much hope. Why do Nite Owl and the Silk Specter of all people look badass in that trailer? Talk about missing the point.

And how was that "Glamorized"?

This would take an essay and I already know you won't be persuaded. The quick version is the way it's shot and the fact that it's in the movie at all (another "more sex" studio note perhaps).

Eh. Maybe I'm just getting too old to enjoy vacuous FX reels without basic things like story, intelligence or emotional engagement. I can appreciate there will always be a place for that and young boys to lap it up, but 300 is empty piffle. Which is actually rather damning in my opinion considering the drama inherent in the situation!
