I just finished my 2nd read. Its TEN TIMES BETTER the 2nd time!!!! There is SOOOOOO much in this book, and so much going on in the panels.

I think I am gonna go for a 3rd read now.

Still...sometimes I bearly look at the pics, because the words are so engrossing.

Also, thankfully the art in the book is actually good. Thats always a plus.

If you vets have anymore, post 'em!

Between that and the Absolute Edition (which I believe you said you purchased) you should pretty much be good to go. :duff

(But be prepared to see TDK as a much more simple creation than you did before quite soon, though. :monkey5 )

Correct.

And THIS

THIS

and... THIS

Yes, those are all different. One ("Watching The Watchmen") about the creation of the book and three on the design and making of the film.

'The nipples are deliberate' - Watchmen director explains film's messages and meanings

Interesting read:

https://blogs.coventrytelegraph.net/thegeekfiles/2008/08/the-nipples-are-deliberate-wat.html#more

"When we talk about mass culture embracing superhero movies, for instance, with Ozymandias's costume, it's, 'Oh, he has nipples. It's like a Joel Schumacher thing.' That's not an accident. Nipples didn't just show up on that costume because we thought it was cool. It's because we want to say, 'Yeah. Joel Schumacher made a bunch of superhero movies.'

"That's part of the language now, though, of cinema. You can see it in Nixon's war room in the film. ... It's so Dr Strangelove, it's ridiculous. We were in there going, 'We're going to get sued for this, this is crazy.' When Rorschach walks down the streets of New York, it's Taxi Driver. And you have to do that with that stuff."

The question is why? Putting nipples on Ozymandias isn't clever in itself. So what's the commentary there? What are they saying about the Schumacher films? What are the filmmakers trying to critique exactly? It's stuff like this that makes me worry about the movie, because it doesn't seem like it's been thought through beyond "Hey, cool!"

Which doesn't inspire confidence when it comes to a book where everything was thought through by Alan Moore.

Nipples? Looks like it's taking cues from recent superhero flick costumes the same way the original book took cues from the silly gold age superhero costumes.

Sounds like you need to skip this movie.

So I literally just finished my first read though of the book and I honestly cannot describe it. I need time and probably another read through to process everything. If the film retains 1/10 of what the book contained in spirit I will be more than pleased. I can completely understand the point of the nipples on Ozymandias's suit as well: Viedt was a sell out who was focused more on his bottom line much like the Batnipple represented the final sell out and undermining of Batman. At least that's what it says to me. This film will turn the superhero film genre on it's head much as this obviously turned the superhero comic genre on it's head.

Exactly... and Barbelith... Why are you so negative all the time? You seem to stick in this section of the board and just cry about everything...

That's what I've been saying since the first pics of Ozy popped up. And I love that quote from Snyder that he's using classic film references to enhance the film. Or possibly he's attempting not just a deconstruction of the superhero film, but of film in general, just as Moore did of the comic book media.

I see it as exactly the same thing. It follows the book's trend by deconstructing the comic book film trends... which is really smart to do, I think.

Sounds like you need to reread the book if you think it was just "taking cues" from old comics.

But how is putting nipples on the Batman costume selling out exactly?

Can you explain what precisely is being deconstructed with the nipples and how that deconstruction is taking place?
