That is ^^^^ing awesome. Looking REALLY good, Irish! :rock

Looks reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally good! But are you flying to the con?... I hope not with those bad boys.

Thanks, guys.

And, no Neil. Luckily for me DragonCon is about 30 miles from my house. :D Though I will be staying down there at the hotel the entire weekend. The Con runs 24/7. It starts Friday morning (Thursday night, really) and there is always something to do or a party to go to until Monday afternoon. :rock Plus, having a room makes the whole costuming thing a gazillion times easier.

Parties? Don't shoot any pregnant women, please.

Actress Carla Gugino Calls ‘Watchmen’ Rape Scene Brutal
Published by Shawn Adler on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 11:57 am.

Sure, lots of comic book movies have people dying, people killing, people even setting fire to other living people (we’re looking at you Chris Nolan. Don’t think we’re fooled cause you cut away). But how many comic movies are bold enough to show a rape?

None, of course — at least not until “Watchmen,” which will keep a violent scene of sexual assault from the comic intact, co-star Carla Gugino told MTV News.

“It was really brutal. It was brutal to shoot,” Gugino said of the scene, in which the Comedian (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) attacks an young Sally Jupiter, who only manages to avoid getting raped by the timely intervention of fellow mask Hooded Justice. “That was one of the things [director] Zack [Snyder] said to me from the start: ‘I really want this to be incredibly brutal. It’s not a turn-on kind of story. It’s bad.’ It’s important that we did that. I think hopefully it will be really powerful.”

No matter how uncomfortable, however, it’s ultimately a scene that really HAS to be in the film, Gugino said, since it influences so much of what comes after: Sally’s retirement from crimefighting, her self-image as a sex-symbol, and, of course, her second, consensual, sexual encounter with the Comedian later on.

“It’s so informative of so many things thematically in the movie and certainly in the graphic novel, not only for this character but for the Comedian and ultimately [her daughter] Laurie,” Gugino said. “Many things stem from that particular situation.”

But the real question is: are audiences ready for a rape scene in a comic book movie?

I guess 300 doesnt count?......a big rape scene there....she may have let him, but that was totally rape.

The Crow has a rape scene, as well.

Regarding the "sexing up" or hollywood-izing of the story, it does worry me that the Comedian is seemingly presented as a "bad ass" character as opposed to a degenerate rapist. Speaking to a retailer friend of mine, I was shocked to learn that DC Direct is offering weighted case assortments of Watchmen figures - both Comedian-heavy and Comedian-only.

EDIT: I don't mean to say that the act itself won't be appropriately ugly, just that it seems from a merchandising POV that they are gearing up for him to be a breakout character. My friend and I were bothing scratching our heads over it.

BAD ASS!!!!!

Thanks, dude. I'll at least try and make you guys proud. :duff

The worst part of doing The Comedian as a costume? The mustache. Last night I shaved the beard I'd grown since SDCC (all except for the 'stache). Uh, not my favorite look the whole 70's Porn Star/A-Hole Cop/Child Molestor thing. I don't know if I want to leave my house for the next 10 days. Maybe I should go with a fake 'stache instead. (And, no, there will be no pics) :lol

It's interesting how many people seem to gloss over that.

The Comedian IS a bad ass. He's just also a vicious bastard who long ago lost hope in humanity and goes about life as if it's all a big joke. He plays along with the brutality of mankind. He's a total self-centered a-hole, yes. And he does some very vile things. But ultimately he's revealed to have a heart and shows remorse. Ironically (aka, the punch-line) that's what gets him killed.

And comments from Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Carla Gugino and others lead me to believe that this will translate directly into the movie. He won't just be some macho badass. The Sally rape scene will be there, the Vietnam bar scene will be there, the Keene riots will be there, etc.

Those things also being present in the book haven't kept some fans from glorifying a rapist. In a way, that's the Comedian's biggest joke.

That is weird. I would have thought they would be heavy-Rorschach. He seems to be THE most popular character by far. Heck, the Comedian is techincally dead when the story begins :lol

As interesting as Comedian is, along with Rorschach, I think Jon is by far the most psychologically complex out of them all, thus MY favorite. Although one has to wonder how..accurate.. HT will be when they make him.
