I want to know why Fox decided to sue AFTER the film was shot. WE knew about this WAY before shooting began. Why did they even let them shoot it. That is the mysterious thing to me.

Here is an idea! Have Watchmen and HP6 switch release dates? Harry in March and Watchmen in July so there is enough time to settle this stupid law suit?

I think Fox didn't care initially but when they saw the HUGE POSITIVE reaction Watchmen was getting they probably got angry and that's when the law suit rumblings started. This seems more of a pissing contest or a game of chicken than anything else.

Fox Searchlight is a part of Fox? They've put out some great films recently and have some more slated for this year.

edit: Yeah they've had some great movies, so I'm not sure what's up with the idea they've not had a good movie in a while.

It may be FOX, but Its not 20th Century Fox which is the studio doing the whole thing with the Watchmen.

Serchlight is another company, as is Fox Atomic....I think anyway.

But it's all the same. Just a different focus. Think of it like a college. If you went to UGA and majored in business, your school is called the Terry College of business, but it's still UGA in the end.

No, it's like going to a satellite campus of a big school like Penn State. If you went to Penn State Fayette campus you really didn't go to Penn State. :lol

That really doesn't work. Penn State is a Pennsylvania state school. State schools have a school system. Satellite schools are a branch of a state system and share the same name because the name is state related. Penn State Fayette isn't a branch of THE Penn State per se, it's a branch of Pennsylvania state schools the same as THE Penn State. THE Penn State is just the land grant university. All other state affiliated branches are still under THE Penn State University wings.

As a former Penn State student, and now an annoyed Alumni, I can tell you that not only is Penn State not considered a state school, it's structure in reality is in no way a "branch of the state system". In tuition and current power structure/administration it is almost entirely a private school. Right now Penn State has the highest tuition of ANY PA "state" school, we get screwed on state funding and all branch campuses defer to University Park for all decisions not to a state authority. So when one says Fayette, Wilkes-Barre or any other of the campuses aside from University Park are not the real Penn State it is entirely true. They are versions of Penn State made available for those without the financial means or educational requirements to attend University Park.

Now how does this relate to Fox? Well basically Fox sees these other Fox companies, the watered down Fox companies, as places to move flicks they don't have faith in. If they did have faith in them why not release them under their main banner and have the acclaim go to Fox proper and not Fox Searchlight or something? It's because Fox exists solely to reap as much profit as possible regardless of quality. Fox is angry because Watchmen was done successfully, correctly and looks to be a hit. That's why they care now as opposed to at the start of pre-production when, if going by their experience, the project was "unfilmable" in the words of Terry Gilliam and would fail as it had would them numerous times. Fox sees dollar signs now, and if they don't get a cut then no one will, hence the idea that they would rather see it buried than see the light of day. It's a child saying "If I can't have it, no one can."

Just quoting from the source...

The Pennsylvania State University (commonly known as Penn State) is a state-related,[2][3] land-grant, space grant public research university located in State College, Pennsylvania, United States. The University has 24 campuses throughout the state of Pennsylvania, including a virtual World Campus. The enrollment at the Penn State University Park campus is 42,914 with a total enrollment of over 84,000 across its 24 campuses, placing it among the ten largest public universities in the United States. Penn State offers more than 160 majors and administers a $1.4 billion (USD) endowment...

In addition to the University Park campus, 19 campus locations throughout the state offer enrollment for undergraduate students. Over 60 percent of Penn State first-year students begin their education at a location other than University Park. All of these smaller campuses offer a limited number of degree programs, but any student in good academic standing is guaranteed a spot at University Park to finish his or her degree if required or desired. Most students do complete their degree program at University Park (known as "change of assignment," since Penn State campuses are not independently operated and therefore "transferring" is an inaccurate term

Regardless though. My point and my analogy is just in reference to different branches of Fox. You can argue all you want, but it's still Fox. I was simply replying to those that have said Fox hasn't had a good picture in a long time, when that simply is not true.

Anywho, back to Watchmen. I see nothing wrong with Fox wanting a cut if they still own some rights. It's not a hard problem to solve. Pay them what they're due.

Haha! Awesome. :rock

This is why I own 3 copies of the book: My Absolute Edition, which no one gets to touch :)lol), a newer TPB that I keep around for reading/reference purposes, and my original, beat up TPB that I loan to friends (it's currently out, of course).

By the way, I hadn't seen these pics of Jackie Earl Haley as Kovacs until today:

Damn! He definitely pulls off the look of Kovaks!!

Thnx for posting Irish, hadnt seen those before.

I imagine Fox waited until the film was done so they would have more leverage.
