But that doesn't mean a production designer, producer, or writer couldn't have read it. I know Burton isn't a regular fan of comics, but apparently he loves THE KILLING JOKE, also by Alan Moore.

I'm not sure Tim Burton would truly grasp WATCHMEN if he even read it. The entire thing is so far outside his one wheelhouse. Hell, he didn't even get POTA or Dahl's Wonka.

However, Sam Hamm (wrote BATMAN '89) was prepping and writing a WATCHMEN script for Terry Gilliam and Charles McKeown around that same time, so if anything maybe that's what you're extrapolating. Hamm's WATCHMEN was horrid, though.

Thank goodness we didn't get that version of Watchmen!

I don't see any similarities at all with Watchmen and the 89 Batman. Maybe the grapple gun, but that was already in Batman comics. The Burton Batman, like all his films, is a fairy tale and has nothing in common with complex world Moore and Gibbons created.

The New York Times has published an article on the joint report that was submitted to the federal court on Friday by lawyers for both Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox about the Watchmen rights. Here's a couple of clips:

Fox has said it will seek an injunction blocking Warner's planned release of the film next March. Warner has argued that Fox should not be allowed to stop the movie, after standing by while Warner and its partners on the film, Paramount Pictures and Legendary Pictures, spent more than $100 million on the production, directed by Zack Snyder ("300").

The report also outlined conflicting requests for a trial date: as early as next June, if Fox has its way, or April, if Warner prevails.
