But the viral campaign was designed FOR the existing fans, not the dolts. It was never meant to really sell the film to the masses. Same with "Under The Hood", "Black Freighter", etc. None of this stuff will play well to the mainstream at all. And that's a-okay for everyone. Besides, mindless Summer fare with giant robots and flying karate soldiers are on the way for those folks' entertainment. We're good.

Yeah, I enjoyed the virals more then TDK. Since i'm an 80's nut, it was really cool to sort of be "put into" that time period.

You should have lived through them. :horror

I enjoyed the viral campaign as well, but they really had their work cut out for them; it is just a VERY complex world to paint -and one that demands quite a bit of nuance. While the opening credits did a good enough job in demonstrating the tone and tickling fan boys' fancies, it is unrealistic to expect people (the dolts) to find themselves immersed from 5 mins of visual flair.

This is a fanboy film, I don't see anyway to get around that.

I know some say it does not matter about the Box Office, but It can effect how it's treated for it's DVD/Blu-Ray future. Why give something the full works if it did not do well at the Cinema

They didn't do too bad with the 300 home video release, I'm sure they'll do fine with this. And besides box office doesn't really effect the DVD release--look at The Dark Knight, that DVD is the worst one I've bought in years.

So what extra "goodie" will WB include in the deluxe edition of the Blu? :monkey5

But you can bet on the popularity of that movie, that there will be a special edition in the future.

Not at all an issue. Two things...

1. It's a done deal. Part of the package that Zack and the producers made WB sign off on included millions of dollars of extra money toward things like the viral campaign, Under The Hood, Black Freighter, various photo-shoots, and all of the Blu-ray/DVD iterations. These will happen, partly because the money has ALREADY been spent. This is one of the many reasons why fans were pissed at Fox for trying to gum up the works in the 11th hour. They never would have agreed to do WATCHMEN the right way. WB believed in it so much that they sunk MILLIONS of extra dollars into stuff that they knew wouldn't likely affect the bottom-line. This is where Snyder deserves all the kudos in the world.

2. While WATCHMEN isn't (and was never going to be) a mainstream smash hit, it's not exactly a bomb. Perception is funny. Think about this: Its opening weekend was bigger than both "Batman Begins" and "Superman Returns". Not bad for a hard-R niche film with a 2:45 run time.

Most fans of Watchmen knew that the theatrical release wasn't going to be the actual homage to the comic that we are waiting for. It'd be a great warm up but when the extended edition is released on DVD/Blu-Ray that has the Black Freighter and all the other stuff put in then that will be the true test of what has been created.

Batman Begins had decent legs though. Will Watchmen? ^^^^, the original Hulk had a bigger opening than Batman Begins and Watchmen.

lol...Superman Returns is a joke. and better than Batman Begins is pretty admirable, but how does it fair against the Dark Knight?? :D
