I think most of the love for those movies comes from Beckinsale being in leather.

I agree. The Underworld movies are empty, vacuous spectacle and not even particularly well made. Try to imagine what Jaws or Close Encounters of the Third Kind would be like if they were made today; the mind reels. When did genre movies stop having human beings in them?

Dare I ask: is it better than The Dark Knight?? :lol

IMO, I thought it was WAY better than 'The Dark Knight'. Of course I wasn't enamored with 'The Dark Knight' as I found the motivations of some characters to be silly, the under use of Joker to be silly and some of the plot devices to be laughable. Still had fun watching 'The Dark Knight' of course, but it didn't grab me like it did to many other viewers.

I liked 'Watchmen' much more.

I went last night and I really enjoyed it! I am currently reading the book and had only gotten about 5 chapters into it. I thought the first 40 min were kind of boring because it was literally page for page dead on (a good thing though). I went with a large group of people who had never even heard of the watchmen and I warned them all that it was way more drama than action. Most of them ejoyed it because they were warned! I felt that there were some frustrated people in my theather because of the lack of action.

I will be anxious to check out the director's cut later on. By the way, Watchmen has probably one of the hottest sex scenes I have ever seen! Just thought I would throw that out there.

Yeah, that sex scene was pretty intense... I wasn't expecting that at all. But then again I wasn't expecting it in 300 either. I think Zack could have been a great porno auteur. :lol

How can it be boring and a good thing?

I just realized, Laurie was the only person who killed anyone aside from Rorschach. Yeah.

No. We also see the Comedian, Ozymandias and Dr Manhattan kill people. I'm fairly sure we see Dan kill people in the alley, but I'd have to watch it again.

I have to admit I was laughing. Very cheesy, especially the soundtrack.

I'm talking about the Alley way. Laurie was the only one who killed.

That's debatable. The way it played, it seemed as if they killed all those thugs. I could be wrong. I will pay closer attention the second time I see it.

Dan just broke bones. You can still see people flopping around when they're done.

Laurie's a ^^^^ing psycho path. :lol

And I think the sex scene was supposed to be funny....I mean, no reason to play that song if it wasnt for laughs. And the fire climax.

Just got back from a morning showing. Overall, I thought it did a great job of balancing the billion elements of the story, while keeping it palatable for a general audience. I initially thought Crudup's voice as Manhattan was terrible, but it eventually grew on me. I'm not convinced it was as picture perfect as many of the other portrayals, though.....at least in my mind's eye of what Manhattan would sound like. And they skipped the coolest part of his origin, which makes the comparison between his resurrection and putting together the cogs of a watch. "Really, it's just a question of reassembling the components in the correct sequence..." I can't believe that line wasn't in the movie....added more weight to what was goin on.

I also felt the fight scenes were rather uneven. The confrontation of Nite Owl and Rorschach vs. Ozymandias had people laughing because it was so over the top. The sequence in the comic where Veidt uses the platter and fork were much more slick and tasteful IMO. Overall though, as someone who's read the book a dozen times, I have nothing major to complain about, and I can't imagine any other filmmaker adapting it as well as Snyder did.

In the book, Dan was a retired, washed-up, out-of-shape man with impotency problems, he needed to be in his superhero outfit to get it up. What part of that isn't funny? :lol
