Can someone also explain that how the COMEDIAN, 6FT 2inches, 225lbs, trained killer, get beaten and thrown out a window and no one can think of a suspect that can do that to him. Clue... SUPERMAN?? IRONMAN?? HULK MAYBE??

I remember in the book the detectives investigating the scene thought that it must have been two accomplices.

Well one reviewer says probably not but if you can get to $70 million on your feet you can get to $150 million on your knees I believe is how they put it.

I couldn't disagree more. That scene was as disturbing to me as it should have been. Of course the camera was leering at her, we're seeing her through the lustful eyes of the Comedian.

I not sure audiences should see what he sees. We understand where he's coming from the moment he turns back to the door; that makes her extended undressing scene gratuitous in the extreme. It's a pointless sexualization of a situation that isn't about sex.

Another random thought - I didn't mind the old age makeup on Carla Gugino, but man Nixon looked like one of the old guys in the balcony on The Muppet Show.

All the stuff about the Comedian & Silk Spectre I & father of Laurie did not work, especially the reveal scene at the end.

Just got back, and I must say I loved it! There is not one person who read the novel that can claim they were not giddy as a school girl from seeing those characters on the big screen.

It's not without it's faults, which has been discussed pretty well here. I gotta say I totally agree with those who expressed disappointment with Dan and Laurie killing people. And Archie with guns? c'mon...

I'm glad I'm not a critic, because I really cannot look at this film objectively. I was just given almost 3 hours of fan service and I feel great about it.

I also want to say I was wrong about Doc Manhattan's voice not being correct. Seeing the full movie and not just trailers makes me realize it was perfect.

2 big thumbs up from me and I cannot wait for the director's cut! :rock

Totally agree. Laurie / Comedian scene was terribly placed, essentially spoiling the reveal 2 seconds before the reveal. I suspect this may be one of the shortcomings salvaged in the Director's Cut. Though I'm loathe to even mention the DC with all the miracles it will apparently perform.:lol

you know what Dr. M thinks about miracles.... :lol

Only way I would've gotten a proper live action Watchmen would be in a 12 hr miniseries on HBO. Oh well, this was a lot of fun to see and I really enjoyed most of it, but it just paid lip service to the comic book in many respects. Can't wait for that miracle DC! We did get some killer swag, an awesome motion comic and the animated TotBF out of it so that's rockin'.

An HBO mini series would have been perfect. Plenty of time to devote to each "issue / section." with out rushing. I though a Kill Bill approach might have been another viable alternative.

I loved the animated comic except that the narrator really made Laurie sound like a drag queen. :lol

During the Dr Manhattan origin bit I was thinking about how that would have been one of the all-time great episodes of television.

It's only a matter of time until someone dubs individual voices on top. :)

Saw it this afternoon & I liked it a lot I never read the book so I had no preconceptions going in but I was very entertained well worth the $7.50. :D

I saw this tonight and I really loved it. Despite it having that feeling of Nostalgia..no pun intended... from watching something I knew so damn well already.

The movie has it's faults though, namely the alley scene. It wasn't the violence, I had no problem with that... It was just that Laurie and Dan killing didn't really sit well with the tone of things or with the characters themselves. The added prison fight was fine, no issues there. I do think the heroes were too strong, but I don't mind. I know they were just trying to spice it up so people would have something to look at during the fights.

There were a few standout scenes that really were nailed IMO. Anything with the Comedian was GOLDEN, especially the bit during the riots. The psych eval with Rorschach was surprisingly emotional and his final scene was very well done by JEH, almost brought a tear to my eye. Dan attacking Adrian was also very well played, and the Dr Manhattan origin was probably my favorite. They took a character I just liked in the comic and made me love him. Billy Crudup really nailed it IMO.

And I wasn't distracted by the blue ^^^^, that didn't bother me at all either. To me, the movie was exceptional. The only downfall IMO was the alley scene, and an unexplained Bubastis.

One thing worried me though, my theater had only like 10 people in it. And that is opening night at 7pm. It should have been stuffed with people, but it was surprisingly bare. I'll see it again Sunday, maybe a few more people will be there. I was just expecting a full house.

But then again, my town is small and full of old people and religious devotees so I can see that they wouldn't give a crap about Watchmen. :lol

During the Dr Manhattan origin bit I was thinking about how that would have been one of the all-time great episodes of television.

What people often fail to mention in the desire to have every scene from the book represented is that the pauses, the silences, the breaks between the panels are just as important as the other bits. They help give the scenes and vignettes weight, life and gravitas. Cutting those pauses greatly diminishes the impact of certain scenes and even the overall theme of the piece. The Dr. M origin is one of the few times they allowed the film to slow down and tick off at a proper pace. The film as is just has no elbow room at all.

I just saw this tonight and I have to say it was one of the best movies I have seen this year. It had everything I could ask for in a good movie and it was just reall well executed.

Saw it last night and absolutely adored it! My friend who has not read the book, nor knew anything about it thoroughly enjoyed it also.

Only bit I was gutted about was when Rorschach kills Blaire Roche's murderer. That is one of my fave bits so gutted we didn't have the speech as he views the burning house.

Just got back from seeing it on IMAX, I thought it was brilliant! You'll get no over analyzing of fight scenes here, I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Jackie Earle Haley was ^^^^ING AWESOME. :rock 'Nuff Said.

Obviously this was no Lawrence of Arabia or Ghandi.

I didn't care for Ghandi. :duh

Nor do I. :lol That wasn't my point.

If you really want to get technical ask them the proper way to snap a neck. If they were in the same line of work or MOS if you will, they will tell you that the movies have had that wrong for years. I dare you to try to twist someones head around on swivel. It won't work. Now take your left hand on the back of someones head and push down while taking your right palm on the chin of said opposition and pushing up I am sure you will find a more positive outcome. :lol

I wish I could shake your hand right now. I've been trying to explain that to people for YEARS! Oddly enough, I was demonstrating it on the torso bag at ^^^^'s a few weeks ago. Been in the martial arts for most of my life, and there is no way to turn someone's head around like an action figure. It just doesn't happen. I wouldn't have expected anyone else on the board to know this. I feel an odd sense of relief. :banana

Maybe once Synder's able to make a Memento or a Thelma and Louise he'll be able to make the "domestic" parts in something like Watchmen work.

God I love Memento. Why don't people bring this movie up more often? Brilliant film.

Normally I'd contribute more to the conversation, but I've been pulling 8a-9p shifts, so it's rough to get in some Watchmen talk. By and large I'm glad to see though that people agree with me about the alley fight scene... I don't get it, I really don't understand why it needed to be done that way other than shock value.

Maybe I'll have time to post more later, but it's nice to see people ranting in lengthy posts here besides barbelith and I. :lol
