Great grab folsom, I see now. I have limited knowledge about weapons as you can tell. :lol
That's quite alright. I'm just trying to help and not be an A-hole. I'll be looking for the same things you are to be accurate. I've waxed estatic quite thoroughly about getting my Sideshow T-800 a 1/6th scale M79 Grenade Launcher, M134 Minigun + ammo bag, grey shirt, etc... for the final battle.

Ah, beat me to it! Here's a link to an image of some different setups for this shotgun;

That's close, but not exact, if you look at the screenshot on the previous page, there's a lot of gap showing between the barrels at the end whereas the gun in the link here has a lot of stuff between the barrels. I was trying to research this and just lost my mind so I'm giving up lol.

Wrong! I have detailed files...

Linda Hamilton uses the same Coltonic (at the mental hospital), an M4 carbine, a Detonics long-slide .45 pistol and a Franchi SPAS-12 shotgun.

I dunno Dave, I don't think it's a SPAS-12. The body detail doesn't seem to match. The screen grab is a little dark but I don't see the vent holes on the body like on the SPAS.

Interesting but where are they getting their information from? Seems even our sources cannot agree. How can we verify this?

A very fair question. Even the page I linked to has errors on the weapons identification, but I'm going to have to concentrate on just the shotgun in question here. I'm pretty sure it is not a SPAS-12, the profile does not seem correct. Shotgun indentification can be pretty tricky, their profiles don't tend to be as distinctive as submachine guns or assault rifles.

I think for the sake of arguement that either one would work for cosmetic application in 1:6 scale. I mean, if you are displaying your Sarah figure with a Spas-12 or the Remington I don't think most people are going to tell the difference between the two. They just remember what she looked like in the film and the shotgun looks pretty close. Of course, if you absolutely must be 100% screen accurate, I'm not sure we are going to get to the source without going direct to the source itself and by that I mean the people who worked on the film itself. I don't remember Cameron or Bill Wisher making any references on the DVD commentary either. But if you feel the Remington is closer, go with it.

Is it possible the film gun was a custom to get certain aspects they wanted for drama and all?

Here's my take on this, I started all this so I'll at least weigh in. :lol

I think Sarah's shotgun is a hybrid prop, a SPAS-12 with a wooden pump action grip added to it. James Cameron had many of his "futuristic" weapons culled from other parts, the Aliens weapons are a good example of this. Even some of the vehicles and planes built by his production designers were taken from conceptual drawings earlier drawn by Jim. The Sulaco ship for example was basically the shape of a Machine gun, not sure which exactly. The APC was a converted British Airways plane tug, the famous drop ship was a Vietnam era Chopper fitted with other Brit jet parts....

Anyway I'm guessing this shotgun was a hybrid.

That could be pjam but it begs the question Why? I can see making a customized hybrid prop for the Future War sequences or some other futuristic scene from Aliens but in (then) present day L.A.? Why wouldn't Sarah just use a Spas-12 or a Remington? We know she gets her arms supplied by Uncle Bob Enrique who has been keeping them down in the bunkers south of the border for many years. It is a practical modern firearm.

Wasn't Uncle Bob what John called the T 800 when he introduced him to Enrique? Yeah, I think I remember that awkward dialogue...

Anyway, I'm just saying maybe Jim thought it might film better as a hybrid, especially in a night sequence where Sarah was pumping out shots in the dark, the wood grip is easier to pick up off her hand, the rest of it looks like a conventional Spas 12 or Remington...

Yeah, you're right. Uncle Bob is Arnold. :duh I'm tired.

No problemo :lol

Ok, speaking of John, here's an EASY MONEY trivia question...

How old was John Connor when he met his father?

Assuming John was born in 1984 (or could be '85 depending on which month Reese knocked up Sarah in the Tiki Motel), and we know the Future War in T1 is set in 2029, and assuming Kyle didn't meet John until just before he was sent back in the Time Displacement, we would have to conclude that he must have been 45 when he met a 'younger' Kyle.

Well, all this discussion has forced me to watch the special features on my T2 DVD. There is a specific section that details the weapons used in the movie by character. The shotgun Linda Hamilton uses is indeed NOT a SPAS-12. It is according to the DVD a Police model Remington A70. In the movie, if you pause it, you can see many times that the profile and details of the weapon are not that of a SPAS. In addition, Sideshow lists her coming with an M4 but it should actually be an XM177 as that is the carbine she uses.

And I never knew the futursitic weapons the Endos use in the future war sequences were working weapons as well, built around Calico submachine guns.

Whew.

It's very common practice for sci-fi movie weapon props to be built around real guns. Star Wars, Aliens, Judge Dredd, etc, etc. Usually a design is made and the armorers have to figure out the best real world gun to squeeze into a plastic or fiberglass shell. Often times real world limitations force a redesign of props. But Sarah's shotgun is a real world weapon, not something cobbled together.
