just got the newsletter for set 1 preorder.

3x 5.5" figure for $200 with $20 looking paint quality. Are those guys for real?

You jump to conclusions quickly and judge very harshly. Do you not own any Weta products? Do you not know the history of in-hand items always looking better than ANY photos you can get hold of?

I never ever recieved a Weta statue which hasn't to be fixed by myself, so I wouldn't count that in concideration.

I've honestly never heard of anyone having as much bad luck as you have had. All the pieces you have said that arrived broken or whatever else have been perfect for me and most people i know about.
If it's the broken statues you're referring to, i'd blame the shipping company first if it keeps happening...

not better, but worse. My conclusion is always correct, because i dont judge a statue as a wide eyed fanboy but as a collector who determines if the quality justifies the valuation.

No need to get all worked up, go pay $200 for this 5" dio if you like it /shrug

Your conclusion is always correct for you. I think is what you meant to say. I judge by what I see and that's always my #1 concern.

for me, i like the fact that it is small height wise. i have a few tall pieces that stand out beautifully (all by Sideshow or SideshowWeta)
and i like it that this set is going to be smaller. as for the paint, i think Weta will do a great job and i base this on my Gandalf

But you still judge it from a few pictures. You haven't seen in real life, you haven't had it your hand so how can you tell how good or bad it is?

Yeah, you just lost all credibility with me for this line.

But you still judge it from a few pictures. You haven't seen in real life, you haven't had it your hand so how can you tell how good or bad it is?

The only open edition from years back I remember is the Baby Balrog, who's going for around half of the original retail price now.
So it's much likely that the fellowship sets will go down on the second market, too especially when all 3 parts have been released for a while and beeing sold together in ebay auctions etc.

I find it expensive too for the size and being an open edition...not to mention it is just not only $200 here. You guys forgot the shipping and duties.

For me it will end up being $300 ($200+$20 shipping + $80 for the duty / 2 taxes) so ya if I want to get the whole sets it will end up costing around $1000 for me as I predict set nb2 will be around $220-$225 and the last one being in the $240-$250. I will wait it out once they have the whole sets done and decide.

I don't know about this. The sculpt isn't that great, especially legolas and frodo AND gandalf, in that order. Scale could be an issue, but use a magnifying glass then, or else don't produce something so small in scale that it's hard to make a good piece. This had a lot of potential, everyone is dying for a fellowship dio, but I'm afraid this is an easy pass.

I'm not disputing the fact that you'll most likely be able to get this cheaper on the secondary market in the future, infact i have repeatedly said that that is what i think will happen.

What i'm disputing with you is not the price, but the quality of the item itself

( i do NOT use roll-eyes lightly!)

Thing is a lot of items anymore see a bit of a drop. That doesn't change the fact for me personally I think this is totally worth the money. The statue looks great and having all three pieces will be cherished within my collection.
