Agreed $700 for Barad Dur is just outright stupid! When looking at lets say the Lurtz PF, now that was well worth the $$ but $700 come on even the diehard knows this is pushing the average collector out of the market, this is a way different market and collector. Weta better start looking what the average collector wants and price it in a decent market or the Barad Dur will indeed be in stock a lot longer then they want no matter how mant times WETA puts a "Low Stock" warning on their web site.......:slap

WETA's version more detailed, no, that does not carry water to me as that is just a bunch of crap and blowing smoke up ones a**. DM version is EVERY bit as detailed and every bit as good just the diehard are clamoring to "it was made by WETA"........WHO CARES, if it is good AND priced as a fair market price then IT IS GOOD! Can I afford the WETA stuff yea but do I want to spend $700 on it, NO, those days are gone with me, funny as I do not own a single "WETA" statue since Sideshow and WETA are now no longer together, why well most of the stuff is, MEH.......

Not to get this thread too much further off the actual topic but it may be a stupid price to you that doesn't make it so. Its exspensive for sure and for an environment at the end of the cost spectrum for most of us, but it is really a piece that once you get it in hand is absolutely worth having.

Now, as far as your belief that the Weta Barad-dur doesn't have more detail in it than the DM Barad-dur. I'm sorry man but if that's what you believe you're holding on to that so you can justify not liking the Weta version. I have both and one is a nice version that if painted black does look very nice but the one by Weta is everything we as fans could have wanted and more. In the end as the saying goes the proof is in the pudding and the pudding be it Barad-dur singly or what Weta has made general there are lots of good things on my shelf.

You are free to disagree of course. :lol

Oh I am sure it is a very nice piece but I have a difficult time pulling the trigger on such an expensive piece, I mean 5 years ago I would have done it in a heart beat, but today not even close. Maybe because I have my collection of many varied SSW pieces and I did think the line was finished. I did not buy a 1 thing Tolkien for about 5 years and then I went back the the old site, LOTRG and saw that Red Book thread and that got me going...............:thud:

I just have not seen a thing yet, statue wise, that WETA has made and made want it, yet, Smaug hello where are you! I just hope with WETA's pricing and their way of precharging you, then not then again does not sour me or most of the Middle Earth collectors left.

It is exspensive. I don't disagree with that at all, but the price when you see all that went into it makes a bit more sense. Now, I did use Weta Dollars on it to take it down to $545 I believe. That made it a bit easier to deal with. Thinking you were done could play into it I suppose. I hear ya on that Red Book. I can't wait to get mine.

I understand that. I will say the work Weta is turning out is some of their best work ever. The Hobbit line is really fantastic! The growth you see in where they started and have come to is really fantastic. I love my Hobbit statues. Their pricing is on part with where the market is and has been for a few years. This was something I mentioned when SS started their solo The Lord of the Rings statue line. History has shown this is the market where things are at for right now.

Did you not even like Bag End Moe? Argonath, Prancing Pony, even though those two were made 'back in the day'...

Gandalf the Grey is very good....

As to Smaug, they're not going to release a statue before we've seen the whole reveal in the cinema :)

Given the 700 dollar Barad-dur and 250 dollar gollum I doubt you will be buying Smaug when he appears. Unless its very small scale it will be insanely expensive.

I don't own BD yet but people forget they can knock 100 off the price with Weta points which, admittedly, seems to be buying you less and less as new pieces and prices come out.

Tim from Weta posted on The S&F that if you order Gollum by the end of May you will get $50 in Weta Dollars. That includes any of us who have ordered it before the announcement.

Now that is something I may have to take advantage of

Yeah, that's a very good deal. I appreciate them doing that even for those of us who ordered it already. That's $50 ill apply in the next statue I get from them.

have you noticed that purchasing directly from WETA with your credit card costs more after the dollar conversion? the price weta posts for an item in US dollars doesn't jive with what's being charged. it's a few bucks but still.

do you know if you can apply the dollars to an item already pre-ordered? got the staff of gandalf coming. have you seen radagast's staff? awesome piece and the box is the biggest of any item ever...over 6 feet long!!!

I think that's due to your card charging a fee. My Bank of America card charges a foreign transaction fee with each order.

Not that I'm aware of. You could email them and ask. I have not seen either in person but the pics of the Radagast's staff look awesome.

It was a sticky situation and I'm glad WETA have responded with something. The WETA dollar offer is a clever way to plow it back into the company but I just hope that this high price situation isn't going to be the norm because I'm loving this line of figures

It's a very nice gesture but I don't think they needed to respond with it to be honest. They explained why and really in the end that should be good enough. Gollum was $50 more than I expected since I figured it would be close to Bilbo's size. As far as high price $250 has been the status quo so far so I'd say on most normal sized statues to expect that and a bit more for say bigger statues like Azog.

The explanation was weak to say the least when larger, more detailed figures had already been put in that price range, and too top it off a very large and fat exclusive. Definately needed a response IMO and knew they would step up to answer for good or bad. Glad it was for the better :wink1:

I don't think it was but they've stepped up with a fantastic offer that should please the masses. So it all works out in the wash I suppose. Ill be using that money on whoever the next statue is. :rock

Yeah, being in an area now where it's statues not at last comic-con makes it even more exciting.

50 BONUS Weta Dollars for all those who order this statue before 31st May. Yes, the early birds who pre-ordered this already will also benefit from this amazing offer!:clap Thanks Weta!:yess:
