Re: WGP's Doctor Who (printed pics posted!)

Warriors Gate Doctor Who talk

What about a Christopher Eccelston head? That is one that Big Chief is unlikely to get around to for years, if ever.

I want to see WGP do the more underrated doctors like the 5-8 doctors. I want to see a Paul McGann Hs. While he has been in only one movie, he starred in numerous audio dramas, and has a cult following.

GREAT QUESTIONS!
I am a massive lifelong Who fan so every Doctor is theoretically on the table at some point. There are two factors involved with what we make:

One- For WGP to sell heads, most will need costumes made too. Fact of life. None can be bought off the rack, (though a few years ago Ecclestons coat could be because his 1:6 jacket was everythere but it's not out there anymore that I've seen).

WGP's biggest problem is slow tailors and lack of tailors (but a ton of other current projects). The tailor factor changes several times a year, but whichever Doctor we make is going to realistically need a costume to help sell them better, so we can't just pop out a Doctor head by itself like an Eccleston (although we wish we could).

For us to make just a head (without a costume) we'd need 16 people expressing interest here for that to happen (going forward). So shout out any Doctors you'd want without a costume and I'll keep the list.
(pulls out Tissue Compression Eliminator). That is JUST for Doctors.

The costume part dovetails into factor two-
Doctor Who is the nerdiest show (my personal favorite) we make and we have 50 years to cull from. Because the seamstress pool is so tight only allowing for a handful a year, any characters we make that needs a costume are pretty much my preference, and while I don't know what era we will be hitting next for certain, I know we will be covering more of the Fourth Doctor era for a little bit more before that. I want a nice Tharil sized footprint all over Tom's era for future archeologists to find. :)

Along those lines, just to mention, we have K-9 in the workshop being finished now so he will be out this year.

For those that missed it, a forum member commissioned us/paid us outright to make a Leela head because he didn't want to wait "untill whenever we got to her" on our list, he wanted her now, so now she's on the books for certain as one of our next new upcoming Who character projects.

If anyone is screaming for any Who character to be made and can't wait, PM me (laugh). I offered him a deal on the sculpt because it was Who and a character we wanted to do for certain at some point, so his helping us with the fees bumped her up on the list.

Beyond Leela, the only major Tom era characters left unmade is Romana 1 and Harry. Since we've gone that far, will we make them to fill out Toms era? I don't know. Depends on demand. Since we are making Sarah and Leela however, I do want us to make a younger Tom too (S14-ish?), which has been discussed before.

Whatever next new Who figures we do beyond that (with costumes) will obviously depend on what Big Chief has announced by that time as well. We had been talking about Pertwee and Jo but thats not set in stone. We are getting spoiled with Pertwee in the Character Option range so I have been thinking about maybe doing another era instead.

Random thoughts.
>Whenever we do Davison I would want to make his Season 19 companions as well if there was interest. I would want to make Nyssa at the very least.

>I think we are finally at that stage we will be able to pull off an Ace when we get to her (the patches were going to be problematic but that has been solved). Now the question remains could we do McCoys sweater? I like her enough I would be willing to make her on her own (in costume) if enough people shouted out.

Thanks. I have seen a pic of the 8th's new costume last week, but the image was from 2010 - the article that I had read said the costume shown at the time was a work in progress. Now that I have seen the final costume image from the link you provided, I am a bit disappointed that the wip costume and the final costume are virtually the same thing (the wip costume was missing the shirt.). I wanted to see McGann in the iconic wig. However, I am not shocked that the new costume has him with short hair - he stated in numerous interviews that he hated wearing the wig

I can see the dilemma in making new DW heads - 1/6 customs is a nitch hobby. What is "worse" is that the doctor has such an eccentric taste in fashion. I didn't mention the 9th doctor since I can see him having a more likely chance in being produced by Big Chief as oppose to the 6-8 doctors.

I think if you guys do tackle one of the more underrated doctors that doesn't get a lot of preorders, it should be an outfit the character is iconic for and possibly easy to make - as oppose to making variations like the more popular doctors. It would certainly satisfy those who wants one of each doctors and don't care for variants.

I would like to see a McCoy, Colin Baker, or a McGann Hs. I also want to see a John Simms Saxon (it would be a good Hs for not only a pre cannibal Master, but also for a Life On Mars Sam Tyler HS).

Speaking of shout outs, are you willing to take on a Sherlock BBC line if it garners enough interest? I think a lot of ppl here would jump on the interest list. I would.

The Brigadier version 2.0 ( no beret )

Probably not, honestly, but you never know. In a year from now we may have finished up a lot of the cast from the larger shows we do and feel different.

As a bit of a different tangent, Doctor Who by WGP has always been getting done as a bit of an experiment to see how well we can sell somewhat esoteric characters both on and off of the custom forums. We've been making them primarily just because I want them, without real interest lists, then seeing how well they would sell afterwards believing they would make their money back, and that will determine how far we carry on with more Who stuff later on.

Re: WGP's Doctor Who (printed pics posted!)

Are you planning on making a costume for the Tom Baker from earlier series?

Yeah, we want to do an early Tom head then offer an early costume (to go along with Leela and Sarah). Right now we are still experimenting different ways to make the scarf.

Timelord Knitwear doesn't look like it will pan out as she never got back to me after I asked for modifications to a S18 proto I ordered from her. I need to write her back one more time to see if I get a response.

Anyways, the earlier Tom is planned very loosely around Christmas.

Big Chief are now making noises about a Tom prototype but at their present speed it should be ready for the 100th Anniversary.

That said if they can get their act together and release it before then I expect the most likely attire will be season 12.

With that in mind I would like to suggest an idea for the WGP costume,

As certain parts of the attire didn't change much/at all why not look into the viability of making a selection of different pieces as that way they could be mixed and matched to make variants from other episodes.

If you started with the attire from "The Pyramids of Mars" and also did the grey coat from ( among others ) "The Seeds of Doom" that would provide a decent amount of options and the boot feet you're doing for the season 18 Tom could also work for some of the earlier stories as well such as "The Stones of Blood".

I also think the printed method for scarves works better at this scale than the knitted ones.

Just wondering how all those head sculpts were coming along. :D

Some of Toms coat patterns are very similar as well. :monkey3

The scarf WILL be getting fabric printed since the Timelord Knitwear didn't work out.

All the heads have been cleaned. The Indy, Supernatural, Trek, Galactica, & Bishop heads have been sent off to different moldmakers at this point. Once those casting jobs are done and the moldmakers are free (available) to cast more, the Who heads are up next!

Sounds like it's gonna be a while. :monkey2 Any chance Tom will ship this month?

No because Trek and Supernatural just reached their respective molders and those series have 4+ characters each needing casting plus accessories, then Dorgmal not only has a zillion Indy heads to make on his end, he has Bishop and the Galactica heads afterwards.

I'd say next month.

I would imagine that after the initial work of getting the colors and size worked out, that would save you a lot of time and money.

Any chance you'll be selling the scarf by itself?

This actually works out for me- I can get settled back into my work and school scheduled before the sculpts come out- once I get them I'll have to start working on them ASAP.:lol

Luckily, I finished Sarah's Seeds of Doom outfit. One less thing to worry about.

:lol
Very nice! :clap Did you make that all from scratch?

Thank you. :D And yes I did. I tried to get it as accurate as possible to what was seen on screen. This was definately the most difficult of the three outfits I've done for Sarah.

Re: WGP's Doctor Who (printed pics posted!)

While I'm waiting on that Tom head, I thought I'd ease myself back into customizing by reworking my Troughton. Pretty much a complete overhaul. I repainted the head and swapped him from the old dated Dragon body he was on to a Playhouse (short body with excellent articulation) with hands from a GI Joe ninja. Gave him the shirt from the CO Tennant (perfect color and collar shape), cut the elastic band off the bowtie and pinned it to his shirt with some craftwire and swapped out the shoes for real leather ones. I reckon that's about as good as I can make him.
