Re: WGP's Doctor Who (printed pics posted!)

While I'm waiting on that Tom head, I thought I'd ease myself back into customizing by reworking my Troughton. Pretty much a complete overhaul. I repainted the head and swapped him from the old dated Dragon body he was on to a Playhouse (short body with excellent articulation) with hands from a GI Joe ninja. Gave him the shirt from the CO Tennant (perfect color and collar shape), cut the elastic band off the bowtie and pinned it to his shirt with some craftwire and swapped out the shoes for real leather ones. I reckon that's about as good as I can make him.

He looks great.

Re: WGP's Doctor Who (printed pics posted!)

Here are some WIP shots of some Who accessories Sean has been making for our S18 Tom and Romana: both of their Sonics and the Tardis Key. We'll see how well something as small as that Tardis key casts. I think that's way too detailed at the moment honestly.

Besides the Planet of Evil costume for Sarah Jane BillyB is doing, I am looking into a Hand of Fear outfit by a different seamstress as well. If that works out, that will be for a deluxe Sarah set with some episode appropriate accessories like additional hands for Sarah like one with her wearing Eldrads ring (worn backwards), Eldrads severed hand, etc. As always this is early news because anything involving seamstresses/tailors are my own personal nightmares (laugh).

Nice work, gang!

Thank you much! :D

We'll need to see on that. I would prefer to, but it depends if we are able to get all we need for our sets.

Totally understand, hope it works out.

Wow, the screwdrivers and key look fantastic. And, yes, very detailed. Are you thinking that's going being tough to print that detailed?

Sign me up for deluxe Sarah. Big shock there, I know. :lol

Good luck with the new new seamstress- can't imagine how frustrating that must be.

Good stuff!

Also, I like your sig, I always thought there was something wrong with that mask but couldn't quite put a finger on it. You've summed it up perfectly :lol

Big Chief have now revealed their figure of Tom so how does this affect WGP's plans for that era?

Hi Corsair,

It does. Big Chiefs Tom was something we all knew was going to happen at some point but didn't know when. Even now all we know is he has an estimated pre-order time of October, and who knows when he will actually come out. But he is high visibility and with Big Chief needing to focus on other Doctors there likely won't be a lot of things coming out with him for his era we can fill in.

Once he was revealed the first thing we did was fast-track our Deluxe "Hand Of Fear" Sarah Jane so we could have an iconic costumed version of her out there to accompany him. Seamstress willing she will be available way before their Tom is released, perhaps before Christmas.

The new seamstress doing her is talking a lot of smack. She says by Nov. It would be nice to have a seamstress we work with who doesn't stretch a project out for 7 months when it should only take 2.

Next up on the planned companions list we will be making our Deluxe "Face of Evil" Leela with real hair who will come pimped out with weapons. We are targeting her to be done as fast as we have a seamstress free.

We do have an early Tom era monster planned. It has been goosed from "eventually this would be nice" to actively looking into getting it made now.

Lastly there is our cursed K-9 who is printed. He is being modified a bit by his particular caster who I can never get a straight ETA out of, so whenever he is ready will be as much of a surprise to me as you. I talk pretty straight. The fact K-9 is not done and out a year ago really pisses me off to no end.

Plus this looks like the Doctor has just walked in on someone getting dressed :lol

Chu definitely set the benchmark for Tom sculpts.

If you paid these people without anything to show for it then I truly feel your pain.

Awesome news, especially on Sarah Jane & Leela, I plan on getting 2-4 of the Big Chief 4th Doctor so it'll be great to have some companions to go with them.

Re: WGP's Doctor Who (printed pics posted!)

Definitely count me in for deluxe Sarah as well as HS only. :D

Is there any reason for doing Leela and Romana II with real hair and not Sarah? I think I may have to correct that once you guys get those SJ heads out to us. :monkey3

I deconstructed that costume in order to create a HoF Sarah from a CO SJA figure. The pattern for the overalls isn't as difficult as it appears, especially if you can use a sewing machine (unlike me:slap). Even for multiple orders it shouldn't take that long. I feel for you; hope she gets on the ball and everything works out. For all of us. :D

Nice custom!

The main consideration for sculpting Sarah with hair was wanting to keep costs down for the customers. To have a wig specially made costs around $70.

Re: WGP's Doctor Who (printed pics posted!)

Here's how I see the hair situation with Tom's companions,

Sarah Jane = Sculpted hair works well enough as her hair wasn't long enough to pose a problem with a figure's head movement.

Harry = Sculpted hair with rooted sideburns :lol

Leela = Rooted hair because otherwise the head will have limited movement.

Romana I = Not sure, it depends which hairstyle.

Romana II = See Leela.

LaSirenofEire,
Nice "Hand of Fear" Sarah Jane custom especially considering the scale!

That's understandable.

And thanks!

Sarah's hair depends. It was quite long in Mandagora and HoF. Ultimately, it doesn't matter to me. All of the figures I've done have had sculpted hair and ended with "real", so Sarah's an easy fix! ;)

Harry did have lovely sideburns, didn't he? :lol

Do you make wigs yourself or do you use existing ones?

Re: WGP's Doctor Who (printed pics posted!)

Do you make wigs yourself or do you use existing ones?

Neither, actually, I prefer to root or reroot. If the scalpt is soft enough, I'll use a needle to push the strands of hair in and a thin layer of a waterproof white glue to secure the hair. If the scalp is solid, I'll use the waterproof glue and a toothpick to add hair to the surface. A quicker process than it sounds.:lol

Reroot with soft scalp: Richard Grayson

Reroot with hard scalp: Medicom's Mad Hatter

Wigs drive me up the wall as far as making them go; I find them more time consuming than rerooting. And, as you mentioned, they are expensive to buy or have made!
