Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Here one I was painting, I suggest to anyone painting these too lightly sand them and then wash them with dish washing liquid and then hit the with a light coat of primer. I painted this one without doing that and the casting is so slick the paint came right off with light handling. Awesome casts by the way, not a flaw on them.

how does it look on the body?

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Spenser, could you post a pic of the whole figure please?

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

It looked a little small, but you know Shatner wasn’t a tall dude he was 5’ 9. Putting him on a 1/6 scale 6’ figure is going to look a little off. The body should be 11’ 1/2” tall with the head.

what body did you use? I was originally going to go with a muscle, but started thinking a slim might be better.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

It doesn't sound fair to me that I have to pay extra because they printed undersized headsculpts. I was not aware of this when I made my payment. If they've made a mistake they can't expect us to pay for it. Again, not trying to be rude but I'm feeling kinda ripped off here.

Ok, to be clear - nobody is making any of us buy reprinted heads - the product that was delivered is exactly what was pictured prior to shipping and what WGP thought we wanted - but on seeing the heads and with a little constructive feedback from a few folks, several of the people supporting the project (myself included) thought the heads could be scaled up slightly, in order to better match the proportions of existing figure bodies, and a couple heads could be tweaked slightly. It's kind of an experiment to get the scale looking just right so that any future heads could be printed at a uniform size. But this project will cost WGP money and they seem like they are just trying to cover costs and break even in order to promote goodwill and customer satisfaction. Or to look at it another way, they are charging $50 a pop for the Trek heads, but $70 (I think?) for Indy, so the Trek heads were a bargain to begin with. If it takes winds up being $75 a head to get the first couple Trek heads to our liking so that future heads can be sized to match them, that sounds fair to me. I mean, you do have the option of not buying the resized heads, and you'd still have the originally advertised product - this is something extra Rick and the gang took on to make us happy, so let's not give them grief over it. I'm sure they have enough headaches with other projects they are working on...

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Sorry this is the only picture I took before sending them off.

Oh Spenser, I'm so glad you posted a pic of Kirk with your paint-up. It looks really good! I can only imagine that with a few adjustments, this could look like Kirk stepped of the small screen! Sooooo, excited, there's never been a decent Shatner/Kirk likeness in any scale before, as far as I can tell. I read once that it had to do with Shatner not giving his approval to licensed properties until the likeness was to his liking - meaning that the finished products wound up not really looking like him. Don't know why that would be, but it does sort of fit the fact that no statue or figure of Kirk really got his likeness correct - this could be a first!

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

After seeing the paint-up of Kirk by Spense, i began wondering if we were making too big of a deal out of scale and tweaks and we should just leave well enough alone...but I can't deny that the simple changes in these pics DO make the sculpts look 100% dead-on and that if the heads were scaled up just the slightest bit, they'd look better. Scotty's head looks a little small to me on that pic Spenser posted, but maybe on a narrow TT it would look better. So, why don't we try Kirk and Sulu with tweaks and resizing and then if the scale looks off between them and Scott after the resize, we could address that then? I'm just trying to think of ways to keep this reasonable for WGP, to satisfy us as a group of collectors, and to move things along to new Trek projects...any other thoughts out there?

I'm sorry but I don't see it that way. Sure the headsculpts look like what they were pictured as, but they are undersized and that was not something we were aware of when we paid and it wasn't made clear back then that they were going to be undersized. So you can't say that they delivered what we paid for.

If I have to pay extra to get the corrected size, because sorry but those headsculpts looks too small to me, then I would just prefer to get all of my money back. But I do have feeling they won't agree to that. So I'm either forced to pay extra to get what I should have got in the beginning or I will just have to accept undersized headsculpts...

why couldn't this be handled through PM? You want a refund, ask them. Seems pretty simple. :dunno

I'm not sure what to say to that. Try to put yourself in Rick's shoes. They honestly thought they were giving us what we wanted. He had to trust the instincts of the people involved to get the scale right. He showed us pictures. Unfortunately, seeing things in pictures and seeing them in hand are two completely different thing. You can see documented evidence of this phenomenon in just about any thread on sideshow freaks. WGP isn't a company on the scale of Hot Toys or SSC, they are a small group trying to make customizers and collectors happy by producing something that no one else is making, across various lines. The only two options you present that will make you happy are:

a) WGP should go backwards on making profit by offering new heads for free, despite the fact that it would take time and money for them to create these heads

b) you want your money back

Of those two, option b seems the more realistic choice, but I don't know what WGP's policy is on that subject. I just think it's unfortunate not to support a project that could bear much wonderful fruit over the cost of labor and materials...

I understand. I do not wish them to lose money. But on the other hand, I will lose money. And it's not my "fault" so to speak. I know it's little money, but to me it's a thing of principle. For an example, I recently bought a fragile item from ebay which arrived in a ridiculously poor packaging and the item was of course broken. For me to receive my money back I was forced to ship it back on my own expense even though the seller was obviously the one to blame for the damage. I refused to pay for the return not because I couldn't afford it, but because I don't think it was fair to expect me to pay for it.

Anyway, perhaps if WGP could let me know what my options are I could decide better. I don't want to sound too negative I'm just saying what I think if that's ok. I don't even know if my orders were shipped out yet to pete, were they? I thought only the "Bad ***" Kirk was finished not the "*** You Up" headsculpt. So you can't have shipped them yet right? :dunno

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

For the original three male Trek heads we made, Scotty is dead on to the size we intended and the pic had been posted for months next to the Hot Toys head we sized him against with Sulu. Sulu is a little smaller but acceptable to us. He is in that same picture. I thought Kirk might be too small. He was shown with everyone else. The scale doesn't look horrible together. Lonnie Hale, our caster who stands to make a lot more money from us if we were to re-print and cast the heads again though him, wrote me and then also called me again a week later to say he really thought the heads were perfect and not to reprint Kirk or touch a thing. He has made hundreds of heads. He is also a collector. I trust him.

And when the Trek heads were released there was not a lot of negative feedback coming to us about the head sizes out of all the heads that had been purchased. Thats how we gauge things. Thats how other people who have been waiting to decide if they want to order gauge things. By the feedback. Looked like Lonnie was right.
From comments people were happy.

One or two complaints will happen for any projects no matter what you do. That's just going to happen. All of this feedback about size didn't really happen until I asked everyone, then more and more people hopped on or just liked the idea of larger sizes. Now everyone is excited and are asking them to be sized even larger than the intended size. Thats cool. I love the feedback and everyone acting like a community. And if people want mods too, thats cool as well.

If thats what the majority wants and we're all being friendly here, sure, we'll make them that much larger. And we'll make tweaks. The downside is that it means all the heads will need to be bumped up to this new scale across the Trek board. And it means the new scale the group votes on will be the new scale for this line going forward because we are not running two different sized lines. It's one or the other. We don't have the time to service both.
OK, but... are the original heads that were thought to be too big, now the correct size? If they are then logic would indicate thatthe casting of those sculpts would alleviate a great deal of the remodding and reprinting because they are already done. It should afford new sculpts to be issued at less cost to you and the buyers because the heads already exist. win-win

True, but you couldn't tell in the pix that the heads were undersized. And while Lonnie is a great guy and collector and been in the business for a long time, business logic should have more than one opinion before things ship. Quality control should not be left to just one person. The Flash heads were also thought to be sized right and now they are in the rezing process as well. Its a recurring problem that needs to be addressed before they get in peoples hands.
And, $55 is not a bargain just because that price is compared to the same company's $70 heads. Maybe uniform pricing should be considered as well. If the object is to get as many customers buying WGP product then high prices and constant QC problems need to be straightened out.

Rick, Sean, I hope that these issues can be solved before you wind up with these complications spreading like a virus thru all of your offerings.

Live long and prosper
