no im using embroidery thread and some ribbon that i suggested to rick which should be thin like the decal ones used by nanjin I didnt like them because they looked so fake not like the pics and episodes i saw. I thought it was a rick rack ribbon but i was wrong its a solid ribbon with long zig zag stitching to hold it down. but afar it looks like rick rack ribbon

I think I know exactly the kind you mean, I've seen it before when I was looking for stuff to trim some other customs I was working on, lol! That should look really good, the actual rank braids from the show did have some thickness to them so the raised appearance of ribbon will look nice!

I just want them to look as authentic as possible. Right now im working on Yeoman Rand's proto i finished her undergarments and im starting her dress in 15 min, im trying to catch up with emails and people talking at me. Rand doesnt have any rank bands with the one we are doing so she will have smooth sleeves. I will try to make scotty's shirt and spocks shirt but im having problems finding 365 degree pics big enough to see what looks like gaps in design of rank bands.

Here is my crew so far...
The sizes of the figures are off due to the angle of the camera.
Kirk, Spock and Bones are in Nanjin uniforms. Scotty is in an old Playmates uniform while Sulu is temporarily in a Playmates reboot shirt.
Kirk, Sulu and Scotty are WGP sculpts painted by Spenser (who also cut down the necks by half). Spock and McCoy are sculpted and painted by Spenser. My issue with Kirk is not so much the scale as the thinness of the sculpt.

Thanks that helps alot so i hope rick ordered the thread and ribbon i gave him the link to. because its a match.

Im excited about doing this and i sketched out the raglan sleved shirts and im still looking at pants because i thought they were longer because the one pic they look kinda funny.

Rick ill need a 1/16th ribbon so I can weeve that threw fabric as shown on the red sleeve. so i'll need two ribbons the one i gave you the link and a 1/16th wide ribbon.

I think the ones your refering to is the spens ones i saw in jersey like material and yes it has apperance of sweater in pics and in person. Rick showed me pics of the different companies doing these uniforms and we wanted to use material different so we didnt step on toes. I have worked with various lycra based matterials and I know what we can use. im testing out some stretch suiting for pants for a proto but im thinking about using a knit for pants so im looking at polyester knits now since for that time they used dacron

I like the approach you're taking and your obvious enthusiasm and attention to detail for the project. I'm sure that's going to show in the results. Glad to know the female outfits are also in the plans. Fortunately these only have to be red for Uhura and Rand. Are you going to make Kirk's green wrap tunic? Looking forward to seeing Salty. I hope there are also plans for TNG and DS9 uniforms once these are done.

I am in the middle of WIP of rand and chapel. as soon as i finish them by tuesday ill mail them to Rick as with salt vampire's suit, I know you all are anticapating a look see. I had to be cautious how short id make the micro mini wrap dress. I used official star trek pattern pieces then shrunk them to measurements of the phician. For uniforms for rand I recomend people buy phician med-small bust or hot toys/triad small breast model. since Rand was not well endowed in the chest category not like uhura so when i do her I will make the top wider so 8 more patterns. Chapel uses the same uniform but front angles lower i guess bones needed to see more clevage when whe bends over lol. Pervy doctors lol.

Hot toys just released in pre-order a new slim body which is skinnier compaired to the original slim which would make it perfect for Spock.

it says it's 12" so i have heard there are longer ankle post out there plus their is a neck post in pic so if you got a neck one it might give him the heirght your looking for but I recomment longer ankle post or finding someone to lenthen body.

Their is a kinda secret a friend told me the toungue rings with the balltips on end some are same size as the ankle post so you might be able to custom your own length so go to your nearest tatoo parlor or goth shop

ACI just came out with a medium build body which is perfect for scotty and kirk. I was told this will work with Hot Toys heads so a good body to think about. I asked ACI and their response was that it is recomended for their heads (typical cust service response) but will work with hot toys heads as well.

the traditional slim will work for bones and sulu and salt vampire suit.

Hot toys also updated their slim body which has now been called regular body so for those looking for an update here you go.

So this will work for Sulu and Bones

I pre-ordered one and told RICK I could tailor it to this body im still waiting for his thoughts. Some people may not be interested to vary the body's. I posted the body types because i wanted to see if this is what people want if not I will stick to the classic slim body.

Right now all 3 bodies are in pre order status which with some companies means right now its $10-20 dollars off regular price. So to save money on you guys i thought id bring you the news on the bodies so you can go and get what you want. The overly muscle bodies wont work so this medium build makes a good option.

This is true: TFA Captain America from HT was initially on the short side, so they included longer ankle pegs with later releases that made a notable difference in height. These longer ankle pegs turn up on ebay quite a bit and would solve the height issue for the slim as Spock's body.
