Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

ACI just came out with a medium build body which is perfect for scotty and kirk. I was told this will work with Hot Toys heads so a good body to think about. I asked ACI and their response was that it is recomended for their heads (typical cust service response) but will work with hot toys heads as well.

the traditional slim will work for bones and sulu and salt vampire suit.

I think this body would look great for Kirk and Scotty! When the heads are resized, looks like I'll definitely be in for neckless version of Kirk AND Scotty!

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

right now the bodies are under $50 at least right now with coltswald and a few other places have this here is another pic i found here

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

I'm not sure you've got the new Truetypes right, Groovy. The narrow shoulder and the slim were different heights, and the narrow was actually the regular with smaller shoulders. And it seems not to be part of the next wave.

The new "regular" is the old "advanced muscular." It has the big round shoulders of the previous "regular" plus optional added thigh muscles. It's probably good for Kirk but too big in the shoulders for Sulu and Scotty.

I realize you're looking for some consistency in the uniform patterns, but these actors were different body types. I think Sulu would go well with a Hot Toys slim, and Scotty with an Ignite body, which is thicker in the waist. Sulu could also go on a Hot Toys Bruce Lee body, which has a wider chest, if one is using a neckless version of the head.

I think the Bruce lee body is perfect for Sulu, right build and skin-tone for the character. I'd have to look up the Ignite body, but I think the ACI body is right on for Kirk and could work well for Scotty. Slim is ideal for Spock. I'm wondering if McCoy should be slim, but without ankle extenders like Spock would need? I know movie era McCoy would definitely be slim, because by then he was pretty skinny - but what about younger McCoy? :dunno

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

I'm wondering about the new DiD All-Era body for Spock; it's supposed to be tall to begin with. I've got one on the way, but it will take a few weeks to get here.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

you can extend height using tounge rings my friend told me about that.

i think bones would be fine with the narrow shoulder ht toys/ttl body. sulu to but i think people are looking at bruce lee because he is asian and sulu was alittle darker than bruce lee i think the hispanic body from triad might work.

and im not sure which uniform to do for sulu because in some episodes he wears red and others he wears gold and im not familiar with show enough to know which one is correct.

I've been planning on using the Bruce Lee body for Sulu myself (it would be perfect to do the alternate universe, shirtless Sulu). The body is the proper size and height for him too.

Sulu was in the Command division, so the Gold uniform was the one that is correct on him and he wore it most (I think some of the early episodes had him in the red shirt, because it may have just been a generic uniform for the extras).

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

thanks for update on color. So basically I'll need to know if people want the 1st season Red uniform or the gold one

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Sulu only wore red in ONE episode set in the mirror universe. Regular, "real" Sulu never, EVER wore red :)

Uhura once wore yellow - but only in one episode, "The Corbomite Maneuver."

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

what apears as yellow in techicolor is actually gold. it's a vintage yellow gold. which is the color i told rick about since all the yellows are terrible. I hope everyone is ok with that color because mustard is not available.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

it's not metallic gold just an FYI

Well, that, and I already have the Bruce Lee body, so I wouldn't have to buy a different body! :lol

Also, IF WGP ever does "drunken Sulu" portrait from "The Naked Time", this body would be a natural choice!

Gold is correct, unless you're going for "one-off" variants. As stated, he wore red in the episode "Mirror, Mirror", but that was a pretty specialized uniform, with gold lame waist sash, dagger, shiny boots that went up to the knees, Empire insignia instead of Starfleet delta shield, and medals. "Mirror" Sulu also has a large scar on the side of his face and would require a modified sculpt, if people ever want to go that route.

Sulu also wore a powder blue tunic in the second pilot episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before". That could be a future variant, if there was any interest form collectors:

If this color is the way I envision it, it would look fine. From what I've read, the original command tunic was actually green (similar to the wrap-around casual tunic) when seen in person. The material it was made from filmed as a mustard yellow under studio lights, and that's the color we've come to associate with the command branch in Star Trek. So matching it up can be a little on the subjective side.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Yes this is the gold i showed to rick it's a near match, once i finish rand and send to him I'll probably be doing the male costumes. Ill work on scotty next weekend and have rick take a look at uniform Ill make it alittle loose so it will fit the medium build bodies unless someone wants to make padding for him.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

UPDATE

We are sending the already printed "*** You Up" Kirk head off to Lonnie today to have the neck shortened and then cast.

We hope to have the sculpting tweaks and scale change done for the other heads within a month, Seans daytime job schedule permitting. :)

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

I would like to add my name to the list for the resized "bad-***" Kirk. I'm overall liking the original headsculpt (the cast is flawless) but wouldn't mind a little more shatner-esque bulk.

Thanks,

Tom
