Re: WGP's RAIDERS Jones- LAST CALL ON TRADITIONAL AND SMILING HEADS. PM WST!
After studying mine a bit I have these observations:
The 2 major issues with this head are that it is too elongated in both the profile and front aspect.
The 'sculptor' (3D modeller more like!) doesn't seem to make use of the virtual cameras in ZBrush, the defaults, which is what appear to have been used, are all wrong for creating a good 3D head. There is as much lens distortion going on there as there is with an actual camera. You combat it virtually the same way you do actually, whereby you alter the focal length.
My other hobby is 3D art and there was a virtual version of the model Reby Sky that a professional photographer was helping the software company to create. I asked him why the virtual one didn't look like his photos and he explained that the focal length of the virtual camera in the 3D software was wrong. He suggested a focal length of 120mm. I adjusted my virtual camera to that and my renders then looked like his photos.
If the Zbrush artists creating the heads like the WGP ones make this one adjustment then their work will look a lot better. 3D printers can only put out what someone puts in. This is why trad sculpts, as in those done physically, are often better as human eye is better than any virtual camera.
