Got this yesterday...so far it's mind-blowing...can't wait to start cooking from it.

I just finished "The Eye of the World" and now have quite a few to go to finish the "Wheel of Time" series.

I feel a bit mixed about the first book, overall I liked it... but some aspects of the writing and storytelling felt a little clunky. And of course there are a shat-ton of similarities between the first book and LOTR.

Still, interested to see where the series goes and if I have the fortitude to make it through. Anyone else have a recommendation good or bad on the whole series?

The Wheel of Time series is probably my favorite 'epic' fantasy series; especially the first six books. The similarities between LotR very quickly fades once you get into book two when Rand, Perrin, and Matt start their separate journeys.

I would highly recommend writing character's names and a very quick description of them because later in the series, there are A LOT of characters, political parties, enemies, and allies who all play an integral role. Three coworkers and I all read the entire series together so we could refresh each other on subplots, but be prepared to use Wikipedia or your list in the later books.

I think books 7-10 were very slow because they focus a great deal of...politics and Jordan goes overboard and dialogue/description. He also built TOO big of a world (multiple continents & cultures) and then had problems managing everything. Book 11 and 12 were very good. I can't wait for A Memory of Light to come out next January!

Thanks for the thoughts and tips... I'm about a 1/3 of the way through book two and I see what you mean about the similarities with LOTR fading.

It was funny I didn't realize the first book had a glossary until I finished it, that glossary was immensely helpful in keeping some of the plot points straight :lol

Reading through all Allan Quatermain books by H.Rider Haggard. About 15 in total depending if you count the shorts or not.

Once I have all the issues in hand, I will be starting Warehouse 13. I have to go this weekend and empty my folder at my lcs so I can catch up on the 9 titles I read.
