What self respecting soldier does not keep up with their ammo or have any calm under pressure?

From what I read, most people said a group of trained soldiers should have obliterated those mutants.

Exactly... a trained squad would have wiped the floor with those mutants, even fresh newbies would have only lost a few men. It would not be a slaughter like it turned out to be.
