Aint it cool news reports Will smith rumored to play cap?

https://www.aintitcool.com/node/38249

What garbarge if true! Captain America is blonde hair, blue eyes and WHITE!
if he was drawn up Black in the Comics, I can accept it, but if this is true..I am not seeing it...you lost my paying admission for Cap and the Avengers Movie Marvel!!!

Someone mentioned though he could be playing Falcon in the film..now, that would be cool!

After the debacles that were 'I am Legend' and 'Hancock'' Mr Smith should take a nice long rest from movies. There are some Excellent actors out there who could play Captain America. Mr Smith is NOT one of them.
Personally I don't think colour has anything to do with it, a black actor could bring something fresh to the role. But I cant think of one (let alone smith) who could do it justice. I think its gonna be a hard part to cast, almost as bad as finding a new Superman.

Yeah, screenrant.com is already calling BS on this and I agree, this is what they have to say about it.

Will Smith As Captain America = Pure Rumor
I’m sure the movie blogosphere will be on fire for the next day or two over the rumor that Will Smith has been cast as Captain America in the upcoming Marvel superhero movie.

If you’re freaking out about this, don’t get your panties in a bunch.

If you think it’s the coolest idea ever, don’t get too excited.

During an interview with MTV news for the film Miracle at St. Anna (which looks pretty great based on the trailer), actor Derek Luke mentioned Will Smith and Captain America as being connected:

“I heard they offered Will Smith ‘Captain America’”

He added that it “shows how times have changed.”

As pointed out in the article over at MTV, Marvel has not shied away from re-casting roles different from type. The original Nick Fury was a grizzly old white guy - a cigar-chomping tough guy. In the Ultimate Universe version of The Avengers (as well as in the cameo in the Iron Man movie) he was re-cast as Samuel L. Jackson, and fans haven’t had an issue with it.

This, however, would be one hell of a stretch - and the only reason it might have a snowball’s chance of succeeding is because it is Will “everybody on the planet loves me” Smith. I mean if he could make Hancock a huge success this summer, that shows people will show up to see him in a movie no matter what.

He can certainly fit the role physically - he buffed up to big proportions for his performance in Ali, and he’s been pretty big and muscular ever since. We’ve also seen that he is capable of leaving the “Aw, hell no” style behind as he did in I Am Legend.

But Captain America? Just how much are they planning on changing the character and his origin? I mean IF this turns out to be true (which I’m not buying at this point), one thing they had better NOT do is turn Steve Rogers into some snarky, bad attitude guy instead of the well known weakling who wanted to do all he could to help his country.

As far as I’m concerned this sounds to me like B.S. The equivalent of “my sister’s best friend’s third cousin heard from his next door neighbor” that such and such is true.

While I haven't been a huge fan of his recent movies, does race really matter? Why couldn't he represent America as well as a "white" man? I'm not saying I agree with the choice of casting for the movie, but as an idea, I don't see why not.

they better not do that, i dont have anything against african americans, but i really dont think this is right, like mentioned above by teemu, if he played Falcon that would be cool.

Technically the first captain america was black. In a comic they did a while back they introduced a black captain amerca, basing on the fact that in that time military scientists, wanting to test out something like a super soldier serum and not knowing wether or not it would kill someone would test it out on a black man before a white man and it worked. I dont remember all the details, but i believe his grandson or whatever was the young avengers Patriot character in the young avengers comic.

BUT he is not steve rogers, and if they did will smith i doubt he'd be anyone but a black steve rogers which would be a bit too much of a stretch compared to changing the main character in i am legend to a black man when he was white.

I think some of you all are a bit hung up on race. The black Kingpin was awesome, Sam l. J. is great as Nick Fury, and Will Smith would make a great Captain America.

And yes, there are lots of other actors, black, white, hispanic, asian, middle-eastern or any other race that would also be great Captain Americas.

Just what we need, a wise-cracking Captain America. Maybe he can make a simultaneously-released Captain America rap video infused with Scientology approved subliminal messages. :emperor

Captain America, along with Superman transcend comics and are a part of Americana. The characters are white (or white Kryptonian if you will). What's wrong with sticking with that?

A middle-eastern or Asian Captain America....that would be just as bad and the suggestion is laughable. For the record, I'm full blooded Latino, and if you told me that some Latino actor was up for role, I'd think it's just as ridiculous. Kingpin was black because they couldn't find a better actor for the role that fit the type (only wrestler types apparently).

Fury because he was based on the Ultimates version of the character. Casting Will Smith as Cap? You can't find anyone else better than him? It's a pointless decision, and there would be no reason for it. But the whole thing is B.S. anyway.

It has nothing to do with race. It has to do with not ^^^^ing with things for no reason.

brad pitt could play blacula or shaft....I mean why not? (shakes head)

Brad pitt stars as BLADE 4!

I actually think it would show more racism to offer this role to a black man than to not. People seem to forget that racism works in all directions.
