I actually don't think this is a bad idea.

The biggest problem with casting in Captain America is that he is supposed to be the most charismatic person alive. People are supposed to innately like him.

Wouldn't it also make sense that they tested the dangerous super soldier syrum on African American soldiers?

I believe in Will Smith as an actor. I believe he could bring that sense of 40's naivete.

He is arguably the most popular actor in the world.

I dunno. I'm not totally against this idea.

This is the worst idea ever! People still complain that they turned Nick Fury into a half blind Samuel L. Jackson (which I actually do like, but view them as two seperate characters). This will not go over well if true. Hopefully they aren't this stupid. They've set up the Marvel Universe and Avengers nicely so far, don't mess up the most important member!

Yeah but, this isnt a poll...its the truth. Look how much money I am Legend made, and look how much Hancock made....ect. He's popular. One of the most popular actors alive...if the THE most. You get him, you'll get money.

Will Smith is a fad that's lasted too long. I am serious when I said he plays the same character in MANY movies. I would like to see that one drama where he is poor with his kid, because I heard that was good, but in an action film he plays the same role. Marvel would be doing a diservice to cast him in this role. I would want a much more serious actor, not one so dramatic/over-acting as Will Smith in this role.

Look how much the Dark Knight made! That must mean Christian Bale is the most popular actor ever behind Leonardo Decaprio, since only Titanic has made more money than Batman. There is no logic in your argument. $ doesn't always equal popularity.

Will Smith is great, love his movies BUT it would be so wrong for him to play Cap. Marvel movies have been doing great as of late and I have faith in the industry that they would not let this happen.

Agreed. No offense to anyone, but it just wouldnt make any sense! The original choice for Cap in the comics is two fold. He is to be a symbol of the all american man, and it was no accident that he looked as "Arian" as he did. The idea was to mock the Nazi's by attacking them with thier own idea of the perfect man.

Niether of those hold up if it is played by a black man. In the 1940's racism was still very much acceptable, and a black man would definately NOT represent an american to the narrow minded majority of 1940. Second, it doesnt mock the Nazi's but fuels thier hatred of "non-arians".

Unfortunately the only level that it would work on, would be the "disposable black man for research" idea (which could and did exist back in the '40s). But I think that would be an AWEFUL motivation for the movie.

Again, these are not my opinions on race, but just truths of the 1940's attitude!
