Tell me to get a life, but something's been bugging me: old Star Wars comic books and the *ahem* Holiday Special show Luke Skywalker continuing to wear his farm duds after the Battle of Yavin. It's possible he chose to stick with his Tatooine outfit, or maybe there was just no other reference material for artists and producers at the time.

(Incidentally, the cover of Splinter of the Mind's Eye showed Luke and Leia in black bodysuits)

More recent comic series, like Rebellion, show Luke wearing the X-wing pilot ground uniform (aka Bespin fatigues).

So what do you think? Did he keep the Tatooine outfit for a while (maybe as a reminder of his humble beginnings) or did he switch straight to Rebel-issue attire?

The yellow jacket/ Ceremony thing, as we learned from the cartoon on the Holiday Special. DUH!

The live action part doesn't count, it had B. Arthur dammit! That cartoon was the only worthy thing.......ok 15 min. of Wookie howls at the start was cool too. I say toga than, why not?

I would imagine he wore different outfits. Farm outfit for lounging around the secret base. Yellow ceremony jacket outfit for nights out on the town with Han and Leia. X-wing pilot ground gear when on duty. And I'm sure he had a leaisure suit or two as well. I would hope he had a few other outfits too, unless the alliance was able to get laudry soap smuggled to them pretty easily.

I would think he'd go right into Rebel attire in all actually. Although not explicitly said I feel he wanted to leave all parts of Tattooine behind at that point....

I'd think he'd want to dress more like Wedge did in the cut scene from the beginning of the first movie.

His outfit from the medal ceremony didn't exactly feel like a uniform. I always figured that was the type of clothes he wore when not in his X-Wing outfit. (That was roughly the outfit he wore in the Holiday Special cartoon.)

I agree with Jedi_Mike that it makes sense for Luke to want to leave Tatooine and the clothes he wore there behind. He's a farmboy who has gone to live in the big city. He'd want to dress to fit in.

I've been re-reading the old Marvel comics from that timeframe, and they kept all the characters in their movie outfits.

Its real funny how there are so many inconsistencys regarding lukes attire. But take into consideration the number of media, movies, comics , books, toys and merchandice, and you'll find it almost impossible to retain a consistent look to a character that: A) wore several outfits in the movie B) different variations that may look similar, but vary from various forms of media, comics ect... C) the individual preferance of outfits that vary from author to author. It is my belief that we will probably never truely know the answer to this question, but if i had to guess I'd agree with the people who said is outfit depended on his given enviroment. It is the only logical answer. :D

I just called George to find out and he simply laughed and said, "geezus, what is it with you people?"

:D

In other words, "get a life"! Yeah, I know, I should...

I even asked Dark Horse's Randy Stradley. He said there was no firm policy, but aside from agreeing that artists back then wouldn't have had much in the way of reference material, he made the point that costuming could help identify a character, particularly when the artwork wasn't that lifelike (the cover art above a case in point!)

LoL those underoos are freakin funny!!!! lol :rotfl

but Outlander i agree with you. The art back then was not that life- like, I mean they made luke look like feakin He-man. lol I could understand how one simple outfit could help identify a character.
