I actually found remakes like Amityville Horror and Texas Chainsaw Massacre better than the originals as well.

Meh, I prefer movies I can actually watch and enjoy instead of continually attempting to stifle the migraine so I can figure out what the hell's going on watching a movie shot on handheld, epilepticam.

I do really enjoy the TCM remake. It was dirty, scary, atmospheric, and plain gorgeous to look at. R. Lee Ermey took the quality up several notches too.
