Just watched (Horror of) Dracula for the first time and I loved it!
It's a really interesting twist on the story, and I think it would be great if remade nowadays.

I realize this movie seems old to people, being 1958--but the film is already in color and its a period piece. It also makes good use of blood and convincing special effects. Why remake it when you will never top Lee and Cushing's performance? What could anyone possibly add to it. Its a perfect film.:lecture

Truth. But you have to actually appreciate the actors for the film to mean anything. :(

This is very true! If you can't tolerate the actor/actress don't even bother imo. Sometimes you'll watch it anyway for ____s and gigs but your preemptive bias will rate it low regardless. :lol

You suck. :monkey1

:lol Evil Dead? Seriously?

London After Midnight. Since I'll never be able to see the original, I'd be fine with a remake. Though I guess Mark of the Vampire counts as a remake, sooo...I'd say Night of the Creeps. Just for fun.

It was remade with Bela Lugosi.

Seriously though: only films that are really crap(due to production values, period, or whatever) should be remade. The idiotic idea of trying to top a film that is beyond the reach of most modern filmmakers is just foolish. ie Psycho, The Shining, The Haunting, The Pink Panther.

A film that audiences hated should head the list. Films that the audiences cared nothing about should be next. Classics should rarely (if ever) be remade.

One great idea for a remake is a film so bad that it makes Plan 9 look like a cinematic masterpiece. One of these is "Something Weird". This basic idea has potential for a great film.

I would choose this as a point of attack rather than trying to use name recognition to sell a crappy remake.

BTW, Frankenstein is Sci Fi not Horror.

Other films to remake:

Reanimator (possibly not really horror either)

The Unnameable

It (the Golem one, not Stephen King's)

The Net (yes, this should be a horror film. It has real potential to be one.)

Golden Years should be remade as a film rather than a TV series. (This too is possibly more sci fi)

Or the potential for changing directions exists with familiar stories. Ghostbusters as a non-comedy. Fantasy films remade from the horror POV. ie The Magic Sword.

New ideas with old themes are possible. All ideas were original once.

Frankenstein is both. There is a horrific aspect about playing God and bringing the dead back to life. I would argue it could be either. Reanimator is straight-up horror, playing off of Frankenstein and written by a renowned horror author. And no, it doesn't need to be remade. Neither does Unnamable. It was chilling, well made and relevant enough to still play well to today's audience and the creature effects were phenomenal. The Net? You'd even mention that?! :lol But this is all subjective.

I remember catching the unnamable when i was a kid and thought it seemed terrifying. I've wanted to see it again, never gotten around to it though. Im sure it wont be quite as terrifying as i remembered but hopefully might still be enjoyable.

The whole movie's in the sale of the creature. I saw the suit at a haunted house a few years back. It's still creepy enough to sell the movie.

Awesome. Thats about the only thing i really remember seeing. I think it was late at night around halloween time and me and my cousin flicked the channel over and just saw the legs walking through some house i think. But his younger brother was there so we turned it over cos he got scared. Really wanna check it out now.
