When can we see some 1/6th scale Droids?

I think these two are ones SS will work heavily with HT on to get out. Maybe not in 2009 but I can see by the end of 2010 or 2011.

:slap too long to wait!

In case anyone missed below:

Apparently not in 2009:

ASK SIDESHOW

Are there any plans to make 1:6 scale Star Wars Droids, since you did the Life-Size ones?

We are looking at the Droids for possible inclusion in one of our lines, beyond Life-Size. We’re not ready to make promises, but it is something we’re looking at. Star Wars 12-inch in 2009 is definitely more focused on the armored side of Star Wars.

Not sounding too promising.

Well I have to say I AM dissapointed, but it's not like it is not expected. SS hinted pretty heavily that 2009 would be Armor. I now believe that we will see the Fetts during SDCC, and hopefully in '10 we will see Scum and Villiany/Chewie/Droids take center stage. All I know is that we better see some Biker Scouts and soon!

Yep. 2009 = Fetts, Snowtroopers, Biker Scouts, more Clone Troopers, maybe some bounty hunters... alot of cool figures.

:p

SSC has always said that the Droids will be included in 1/6 format since the beginning. As was said multiple times before I think you'll see HT work on them where its more of an HT created thing yet still distributed and licensed under the Sideshow name. I think it'll be out by next year as well, no promises with me means we haven't got it 100% percent figured out but if we can by SDCC guess what. :lol The thing it'll come with the HT price I guarantee it. I'm not looking at under $150 for these each.

Oh and if you haven't look at the POTA HT figures and said so that is where Chewbacca will come from you are not paying attention.

Here are some quick comparison shots. The first one shows the Gentle Giant on the left, then the Kotobukiya R2 & C-3PO, and finally the Hasbro. It's hard to tell in the pictures, but the color of the Hasbro isn't nearly as nice as the other two. It's quite pale in comparison. The other two are a nice deep gold, and the GG statue is actually gold plated.

The second shot shows the the Gentle Giant statue with a Sideshow figure. It is smaller than I had remembered. It has a tall base, so it would work in a pinch, and it looks less toy-like than the Hasbro (which I think is too big). Still, it's clearly too small. The Kotobukiya is actually the nicest one overall, but it's too darned short to display with 1/6 scale figures. Another inch or so and it would be very close to perfect (although it only has articulation in the head).

I guess my conclusion is that the Hasbro is still the best stand-in at the moment (especially considering the price difference), although the other ones are much nicer when taken as stand-alone pieces.

Anyway, here's a photo to illustrate the point I was making about the difficulty of making an accurate articulated C-3PO. As you can see, he's got a variety of little greeblies on his body and rods attached to his arms that would be very fragile. (On the Hasbro version, they omitted some these and made the other ones considerably thicker than they would actually be if they were in scale.) On the GG and Koto pieces, some parts (like the spike at the top of his head or at his collar) are about as thin as a pencil lead. You can get away with that on a static statue, but I could see a lot of breakage occurring unless they get creative. I'm sure there's a solution, but this is probably one reason that we haven't seen the droids yet.

I thought if its too much to ask for C3P-O or R2 anytime soon, we could perhaps start with the easier-to-make ones like some Gonk Droids?

I'm getting too old to wait for this ^^^^. I could be dead before Sideshow releases the droids. I can almost guarantee Hot Toys would have released all of the core characters including the droids, Yoda, and Chewbacca in the four year time period Sideshow has had the license. I count four years because Sideshow had the license at least one year before announcing Jedi Luke.

I don't think you'll be dead or at least I hope not. :lol I actually doubt HT would have them out by now. They've done a lot of lines where they've left core characters out.
