Where are the high-end Ghostbusters figures?

The Ghostbusters 1 versions are all I want. The GB2 uniforms really only looked good on the poster.

Unfortunately I think Matty will sit on the license and do little with it so Hot Toys won't happen. The trap replicas they did have long since sold out and are going for silly money on EBay but they refuse to do another run of them until the third movie comes out, if it ever happens that is. They're really not giving fans what they want. They're not even using the better Ray sculpt on the new removable pack figures, they're using the older one which doesn't look as good, for some reason.

Which one is the better Ray sculpt?

High end ghostbusters figures would be nice but I think ghostbusters is for nostalgic fans of movies rather then fans of todays movies. Theres a big demand for anything ghosbusters among a certain age range of fans but I think The film came out 30 years ago and if hot toys aren't interested in doing a 30th anniversary special for the figures they never will. They are too focused on todays licences such as iron man, anything marvel related and batman it would seem.

HT haven't even done any more Star Wars figures after Bespin Luke. And if there is any older movie license that is a cash cow, it's Star Wars. Having said that, they are supposedly doing Back to the Future. They've done Indiana Jones, the Crow, Terminator, Superman, and a smattering of other older franchises over the last few years that suggests they are still tapping into this market. Of course, it isn't their priority.

Thing is with Ghostbusters most people will want Venkman, Egon and Ray. Winston might sell a little less since he wasn't "an original" GB but I'd be willing to bet the majority will buy all 4. So while they may not sell as much on an individual unit basis as an Iron Man or something like that they will likely sell 3 or 4 different figures to each fan and could make their profit that, potentially. I don't know how many units they need to sell to offset the cost of making the figure and if Ghostbusters can do that, I may be completely wrong.

Sideshow has definitely taken on, and continues to take on more obscure licenses than this. I was focusing more on Hot Toys. I actually think SSC PFs are more likely than Hot Toys figures.

I agree though I would prefer a Hot Toys version so I can pose it however I want. Maybe Sideshow can do a Slimer pf to test the waters of the franchise?

So I've heard the Mattel Ghostbusters won't blend with Hot Toys figures as they're too big, any truth to this?

I think I have to bite and get the Mattel figures eventually. :(

I wouldn't pose them next to the Hot Toys either. They look about as good as the 12 inch Star Wars figures Kenner made back in the mid to late 90's, maybe a little worse. They're ridiculously over priced now too.

My Matty figures are in their own Detolf's or their own shelves. They don't compare in quality or likeness to HT figures.

There is a lot that can be salvaged though. I used the belt parts and proton packs and dyed the suits. I am actually even considering a repaint of the Mattel boots to see how they turn out. I think if you left the figures alone it is fine if you think of it as just having a complete collection of something. If you are looking for strong likeness, the Matty heads just do not cut it. Some of them are better than others, but they all were sculpted in a very stylized way. It is also pairing that with common mass produced painting done by Mattel.

Guys, I'm a novice painter and I've salvaged some cartoony sculpts myself with extensive painting, do you guys think with my sample work below I might be able to salvage the Mattel headsculpts? The Mattel figures are way too pricey for me to gamble with it.

Man, your Lara Croft repaint is very very, nice dude - & I love the extra lengths of hair that you sculpted too!! :clap

Ah, you noticed the resulpted hair. Yeah, the original was not only crossed eyed but missing many part of her strands, took me a few days to sculpt. Thanks man. :)

I was hoping the Mattel figures are salvageable because as you can see those videogame figures are just as bad.

You can definitely improve the Matty figures. But there's only so much you can do with the wonky sculpts and cheap accessories. It won't look like a Hot Toys figure without lots of work, including new sculpts.

That first female is really great too - it's like a different figure.

Thanks buddy! It's Sniper Wolf from the Metal Gear Solid game. I don't archive my work that much and my camera is lousy, here are some better pics. Please excuse the cellphone quality:

Got it. Hmm.. I dunno, maybe I'll bite. Since there wasn't any 30th anniversary figure announcement, I'm guessing the Matty ones are the only option.

Unless.. we start an interest thread. Lord knows it might cost a small nuclear accelerator though. :(

Ryan.. wow mate. :duff

Yeah - Ghostbusters. Love the first film (who doesn't huh), but I've never really been interested in any collectibles. That said, I did get the chance recently, to pick up the Mattel HW 1:18 Ecto-1 from a local dept store that just got a one time supply of them for the last Xmas sale, out of the blue. I was actually in two minds about pulling the trigger, but passed in the end. I wouldn't have anywhere to display it nicely, & I have a couple of the little HW cars anyway.

It's a shame that some of these iconic characters, still haven't been given their proper high end justice though.

Maybe a kickstarter's in order for this series?
